1964 Ears

They started work on mine today, bad news is my impressions were to short as i didn't see the instructions for the audiologist and he normally does hearing aids which apparently don't go as deep so now I'll have to wait a few more weeks :frowning2: nobodies fault but mine i guess

I don't know Ericp10 from anywhere else but this thread. but I get the impression that he was very passionate about his JVC FX700, and the fact that he is selling them is a BIG deal.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I LOVE my LiveWires Trips, but barely use them now. Why? Well, at home I use my ES3X which give me the same sound. The LiveWires used to be my favorite portable customs, as they sound excellent and didn't cost too much in case I lose them. But now I prefer the 1964-T for unamped portable use as it is just more forgiving. So my amazing LiveWires Trips are sitting there unused. I might put them up for sale one of these days, allow someone else to remold them and enjoy their great sound on the cheap. I never thought I would do that.

This thread is full of surprises. Eric is selling his FX700 and project86 thinking about the same with the Livewire Trips. I guess if anything this shows the quality of products coming out of 1964 Ears.

Of course when someone has as many customs as project86 does having 2 similar sounding customs and only using 1 of the 2 doesn't make much sense (to me at least) to keep them both.

Now if ljokerl sells his CK10 that will trump anything I've seen in this thread so far :p

I'm not selling anything yet ... in fact I just sent my Quads back to 1964ears for checking, just to make sure everything is working as they should.

They have given me a good impression for the past few weeks but do not yet "wow" me enough and something just doesn't sound right.

It really might just be that I'm not used to their sound signature, and purely a personal thing but I just wanted to be sure.

They will come back together with my new pair of Triples ....

To add a new wrinkle to the 1964-Q (I hope those members who know me are sitting down for this), I have so madly fallen in love with the quads that I have done something I thought I would never do>>> I put the JVC FX700 up for sale. I know I know. The 1964-Q has just managed to hit the all-time sound signature

Eric ,my friend , i can't say i am surprised as i am not really ! , i knew it was only a matter of time before your FX700 would be up for sell despite you repeatedly telling me it was never going to happen

.anyway i happy for you that you are enjoying your quads so much at the moment ,however  as president of your fan club i will be giving away a free life time membership for anyone who can correctly guess the exact date that your quads go up on the for sell section , somewhere around 6 months time is my guess .    Happy listening buddy .

Yes you can get different colors at no extra charge.

I'm most likely just getting light blue and light red with clear tips and they will be at the same price.

@jermng: what did you feel was wrong about your quads?

Oh my goodness, what a shock. I fell right off my throne when I read that!!! You put your JVC's up for sale? I can't believe it... although, I sold mine a few months ago and still miss them now and then. But I don't have as much listening time as I did before, and when I do, I tend to listen to my home system more than earphones.

Nice to hear how much you're enjoying the Quads

What do the Doobs sound like with them? And I mean the Doobs without Michael McDonald!

Okay, sorry for the delay in response @ soozieq (and hello!!). My Internet at home is down. I could read but couldn't answer. I'm at the office now. Yes, I'm shocked too. I just didn't believe much of anything could take away from the joy I get listening to the FX700, and I still haven't heard anything to match the JVC's timbre. The 1964-Q, however, does so many more things right for my ears as a whole that I just find it tough to pry them out of my ears. And the timbre is close enough for me in enjoyment factor. It's really the details, staging and instrument separation that's flooring me with my customs. I will miss the FX700 if they sale -  as I missed my e-Q7. But I will get over it too. No use having it sitting around when I know I'm not going to listen to it much. I won't say I've never buy another universal again, but I'm more interested in the world of customs. It's like "oh boy, now I've done it!" My wallet is hiding!! Well, since I kind of know what my sound signature is in customs now, I will definitely be more discerning in what I choose, but I can guarantee that 1964 EARS will have a repeat customer in me.

As for the Doobs, I will listen tonight and get back to you on that Ms. Q

Okay, I'm running into some technical problems with photos, some other assignments and some additional information I want to include, but I'm still shooting for getting the quad review posted this week (or early next week at the latest).

That's great Eric to know that you are enjoying the quads that much :) I know you really enjoyed the FX700 and I thought you would just keep it even if you weren't planning on using them much. However does this mean that the trips maybe be added in the future? :p I guess if someone was in the market for the FX700 now is a good time to buy it off you.

Yes, I'm interested in the triple @ rawrster, buddy, but I don't know if I'll rush to get them yet. As I said to soozieq, the quad is just offering everything I've ever hoped to hear from a IEM. And going back to the FX700 from the quad, something is lacking besides the timbre. I had never heard the FX700 lacking in anything before (except a little tiny bit in the mid) prior to getting the 1964-Q.

@aleki, now that we've all heard of them would it be fair to 1964 to rename the title of this thread

"1964 Ears (The Appreciation Thread)"?

+1 can't agree with @SoulSyde more. hahaha

really sorry guys. I've been a bit busy lately and havent had much time to sit down, read the 15 odd pages of new content, and make alterations to the OP. I'll gladly change the title, however, the OP alterations may not come 'till next week. I plan to make this the "root of the tree" thread, where I will be trying my best to keep up with links from independent reviews, and perhaps a little picture preview before the links(that is, if the contributing members dont mind)

To add a new wrinkle to the 1964-Q (I hope those members who know me are sitting down for this), I have so madly fallen in love with the quads that I have done something I thought I would never do>>> I put the JVC FX700 up for sale. I know I know. The 1964-Q has just managed to hit the all-time sound signature I desire in voicing, instrument separation, detail and soundstage that I rarely want to listen to anything else. I mainly keep the SM2 and the Panny HJE900 in my ears while commuting. As soon as I get home, however, everything else comes quickly out and the quads are escorted into my ear canals. Again, I will never say there's nothing out there that sounds better than the 1964-Q (I'm sure there is), but I haven't heard it yet. I'm quite satisfied.

Eric, I am very enthused to hear how much you like them. You have me 100% convinced on the quads. I'll be looking to join you guys sometime this february; right after I sell my brand new replacement MD's

Aleki, I can only tell you what I hear. Everyone is different and I don't expect everyone to have the same results (although I would be surprised). I have never liked the TF10 or DBA-02, but many here do (I think more of a majority than minority).

Cee Tee, please don't misunderstand what I have said here. I still think the the FX700 is an outstanding universal IEM.

LOL @ luco. I'll double that lifetime membership (lol) if I ever do put the quads for sale. First, universals are much easier to sell, but I'm not even pressed if I'm sell the SM3 and FX700 or not @ luco. I see it as a win-win for me if they sold or are still in my possession. Second, even if I moved on to another custom, I sort of put sentimental value on my first. So the quad is my first custom. The design is uniquely my own and my signature. They wouldn't ever go up for sale (this I'm sure of). They may die out someday (I hope not), but I wouldn't put them up for sale. Just like my first IEM, the Shure SE530. I eventually grew out of that sound, but I never tried to sell them. Actually just gave them to a friend of mine near me, so if I ever wanted to hear them again, I knew they would be close. So there is a difference. You are right, however, in saying I said I would never sell the FX700. And at the time I meant it because I just never felt there would be anything out there to beat it. Boy, was I wrong!! I stand corrected. I just never knew a well-made custom could make that much of a difference and was skeptical - I guess - when others said it did. But like I always say, there's nothing like finding out something for yourself.

@ ericp , lol  buddy, yes i guess your potential customer pool for your quads would be limited to someone called eric who likes a lot of sax and trumpet in his music. So did you get around to plugging the quads directly into your cd player yet ? if so what was the results ? .

As for selling of customs it depends on the custom but resale is 50% or less. I've seen JH13 go for half the MSRP or less so it probably wouldn't be worth it for anyone to buy a custom that sells for $500 retail since they do have to get impressions, remolding cost, and the cable which does add up. I saw a Sleek Audio custom that was unable to be sold because of the additional cost even though it was selling for under $100.

I'd be pretty surprised if you sold your quads in the future since you do like them quite a bit and customs are very different than universals in resale value and it also has that custom artwork made for you that you enjoy. I just await your review now :)

Customs do open yourself to a whole new world but it's easier for me to manage since I do have to buy carefully as there's no going back. I wasn't planning on buying another universal until a few days ago as I want a universal that suits me better than what I already do have so now I have 2 as a backup and for times when I need to use them over customs.
