    DAC!

I realize that there are a boatload of threads about DACs, but I have a few questions.    Is balanced really worth it for speakers?  From what I can tell a DAC that has balanced outputs is typically a fair amount more expensive than a non-balanced one.    I'm looking at this point just a...

Any recommend speaker system with EmbracingSound technology?

I’ve visited the Computex Exhibition this year and interested in an Asus PC speaker system called Cine5, which provides very accurate surround effect and wide sound field (played with a Blue Man Group music), feeling much better than virtual surround like Dolby or DTS. However, it’s a pity that...

Hi. I have basically no experience with audio quality for a few reasons. Let me just give you a run-down on what I have, what I need, what I was considering, and what uses I need this for:   First, I have the Creative I-Trigue 2200s, small laptop (but I also use them for my desktop) speakers...

    Computer audio has arrived!

I have come to the realization that computer audio IS the future of audio.  When was your first realization that computer based audio was "where it's at"?   Was it the singular interface, a new sound card, or something else?

adjusting level of WAV files in Audacity

I would like to use Audacity to apply a uniform increase in the level of some WAV files. Is this possible? I would like  to increase the quiet and loud parts of  the recordings by the same factor to compensate for the fact that I have recorded some tracks at too low a level. I currently have to...

A (better sounding?) alternative to Foobar2000 -OR- A musing in the realm of bit-perfect streaming

So, In my pursuits I have come across the nifty little project "Minimalist Audio Player". It is a small (very small) wasapi (or, now ASIO) audio player designed to avoid contact with the Windows API, as the creator believes that any interaction with the OS interferes with sound quality. The...

Software EQ that works with iTunes

I bought my first set of decent headphones but I'm using it primarily on a computer. I like iTunes mainly because it works with my iPhone and I have all my playlists set-up. I tried Foobar which I liked for the sound (does excellent EQ as well), but I'm quite used to iTunes so would like to stay...

    Confusion with asio, wasapi output.

So I have the Asus Xonar Essence ST audio card. The beta drivers support bit-perfect audio, which as far as I know means that it automatically selects the sampling rate depending on what audio is being played? Okay, now while using kernel stream, wasapi (well this one is obvious) or asio, I...

Annoying Noise in Case audio jack

Ever since I built my computer from scratch a while ago I have had issues with there being strange noises in the audio jack of my computer case, though the jack straight from the mobo does not seem to have this issue. If I drag things or move my mouse I get different sounds that are clearly...

What sound settings should I use in Windows?

My X-Fi has it's own sample rate setting which doesn't seem to change the sample rate and bit depth in the Windows Control Panel. Quicktime also has it's own settings and you chose which synthesizer to use. Should I just set everything to the highest my device supports?

Problem with ASIO plug-in on WMP.

I usually use WASAPI on foobar when I listen to my music, but I have recently discovered an ASIO plugin for WMP. I have tried it out and can't seem to get it to work with music files. It works fine when I watch video, but not at all when I play a song. Does anyone use it, or know of a possible fix?

How much will you spend on a DAC to match a $1k pair of active monitors with balanced inputs?

Hi guys. I'm new here. I'd like to canvass opinion, esp. computer audiophiles on the above question as I step up my research on a suitable sound system for my desktop.   First, I've pretty much settled on a set of Sonodyne SMK100, after a couple of rounds auditioning various speakers such as...
