So I was about to get a pair of AD900X until yesterday someone put some F1's on sale. I've heard a lot of good things about them, but still, they are pretty old right? Can they beat the new phones?

Sennheiser HD598's seem to sound better than DT880s *without* an amp, pretty passable IMO.   Even at low impedence, Beyer headphones just seem to need a lot of juice.   Anyone else have experience driving medium-range open capsules in this range? Words of wisdom? Suggestions?
