Emergency!
Do you have a soldering gun? Just solder together the broken off copper wires together, then cover the exposed parts with some electrical tape. -
Benchmark DAC1 balanced output level?
Oh bummer. Those trim pots are calibrated so both channels have the same output. Now you need special instruments to recalibrate the those trim pots to achieve the same output on both channel. I played around with the trim pots one time, had to send them back to Benchmark to get them...- furball

How to rip to Apple Lossless just the audio of a DVD-A disc?
At least I haven't heard of anyone able to copy an SACD disc. This is mostly because computer DVD drives cannot read SACD discs. As to DVD-A, do some google search. Apparently people have been able to digitally the DVD-A discs. But, is 4 or 5 GB of space for less one hour's worth of music...- furball

headphone amp or receiver?
I am not an expert on this either. Just guesses here. I thought the whole point of a switching power supply forms the basis of this new class of amps called "digital" amps.- furball

Benchmark DAC1 now available with USB
Thanks for the answers! I am going to use the coaxial connection because when I was placing my order with monoprice, I was too cheap to order that premium optical cable, I ordered a coaxial cable instead. Quote: Originally Posted by little-endian Hi furball, the following...- furball

Benchmark DAC1 now available with USB
Hi Elias, I have 2 questions regarding the SPDIF/AES BNC input. The manual says that the DAC1 comes with a BNC-to-RCA adapter. It also says, "TIP: Shielded 75-Ohm coaxial cable is highly recommended for stable performance. Do not use 50-Ohm cables." My questions are, 1) do...- furball

I thought class D is the same thing as digital amp. Quote: Originally Posted by tfarney Furball, I just linked from Cary's site to a review of the Class D integrated. Nowhere, in either place, did I find the word "digital," so I suspect the Cary is a class D design, but uses...- furball

headphone amp or receiver?
That Onkyo integrated is the second place winner in that stereomojo shootout another poster posted earlier. It is a great integrated amp. And with this integrated amp, Onkyo did something different. Instead of using a switching power supply, Onkyo used a traditional power supply to supply the...- furball

headphone amp or receiver?
Cary makes tube amps, class A/B amps, and a class D amp. Yep, that Cary class D amp lists for $1,400. Cary even posts a picture of the inside of that amp on their website. After having looked at that picture, I have been wondering how that $1,400 price tag is justified. Maggies require...- furball

Come on, deep down in your heart, you have to admit this sort of stuff is kind of fun, better than some of the sitcoms I regularly watch on cable. Quote: Originally Posted by Sovkiller See the next episode of: "The JL Crucifiction (...benefits to come...)" here in your new...- furball

headphone amp or receiver?
Stereomojo also did a shootout comparing several different dedicated class D amps (not integrated amps). What caught my interest was the Cary amp. I've known Cary to make very good tube amps, never thought I would see the day that Cary would start making switching amps. But that Cary...- furball

Wow, that little Trends wow the contest. I can't believe how tiny that amp is. That Onkyo came in second place. I think you can find it for about $600. A very nice switching integrated amp.- furball

headphone amp or receiver?
My speakers are 4 ohms, and can on occasion dip down to 2 ohms. From what I have read, switching amps have an easier time driving 8 ohm loads than 4 ohm loads. I need a beefy class A/B amp to drive my 4 ohm speakers. That was the reason why I went with my heavy class A/B integrated amp (52 lbs)...- furball

Does the Behringer do the EQ in the digital domain? i.e. it receives digital input, does the EQ in the digital domain. Is this how it works? Then how does the Behringer unit output its signal? In digital form or in analog form?- furball

Onkyo came out with a switching integrated amp. From the reviews I have read, people seem to really like this Onkyo. Right now the ICEpower modules from B&O are really popular. Many high end companies are using ICEpower modules in their switching amps. Rotel, Jeff Rowland are just a few of...- furball
