    iPod's New Scrollwheel

MacDef, You did? Anyways.. I don't trust Apple reps or the genius bar anymore. And I guess it's a pretty safe bet that the iPod will support the new formats in an eventual update, even if it isn't 1.2, since that's what it says on the website. I would be stoked if the downloadable 1.2...

    iPod's New Scrollwheel

mp4/aac is some kind of new audio compression format. I think the files are supposed to be smaller but sound better. You'd need an MP4 to play it or have something that encodes mp4. iTunes does not do it yet. Supposedly there is a freeware compressor.

    iPod's New Scrollwheel

Lextek, According MacDef, the new version should play MP4/AAC. Does it? I'm dying to put the new update on my old iPod.

iPod is the Best MP3 Player !

MacDef, How do you encode AAC / MP4? I don't think itunes 3.0 does it. Are they reupdating it again, or do I need to buy QT 6 Pro? Seems like if the iPod plays aac, then itunes should encode it. If it doesn't, it's going to be a pain in the butt.

iPod is the Best MP3 Player !

I went to the grand opening of the Apple store in Los Angeles last night, and I was able to handle the new 20 gig iPod. I like the new track wheel. It feels good. It's definitely more solid. The center button doesn't rock like the 5 gig, and when you press it, you won't inadvertantly spin...

    iPod Users

I use 192kbps VBR-Highest. Smart Encoding, filter frequencies below 10hz, Normal stereo mode. As far as I know, iTunes uses Fraunhofer to encode mp3s. I tried using a Lame encoder once..it was a pain. It was so slow. I don't think my little iBook can take it. iTunes is so much more...

iPod Not For Audiophiles No service Plan!!!

The iPod is also a firewire drive. The iPod syncs up seamlessly with iTunes like it was made for each other. Oh yeah, because it was. Because of the size, I look at it as a flash card mp3 player with a 5 gig flash card. I've carried the iPod in my pants pocket everyday since I got it back in...

iPod Not For Audiophiles No service Plan!!!

I guess there is no difference besides the looks. And the archos has a bigger hard drive. It's a no brainer.

iPod Not For Audiophiles No service Plan!!!

Quote: EQ settings in iTunes ARE transferred to the iPod, and are used for playback. Double check the settings in iTunes before blaming the iPod for bright playback. Russ, I remember checking to see if the EQ settings transferred a while back and didn't notice a difference in the...

iPod Not For Audiophiles No service Plan!!!

Tony, I'll give 256kbps a try. I only encode at 192kbps VBR, and I find the opposite to be true. On my mx500s, CDs seem to have slightly harder edged highs, that is a bit fatiguing on my ears. All I know is that I can listen to music all day long without a problem with the mx500/ipod...

iPod Not For Audiophiles No service Plan!!!

Quote: My guess is that your friend had boosted the treble on the songs when he was listening to them on his computer -- those EQ settings get transferred to the iPod. As far as I know, eq settings do not transfer over from itunes to the iPod yet. Well, the settings may transfer over...

iPod Not For Audiophiles No service Plan!!!

I bought the 2 year replacement warranty from CompUSA for $30. Frankly, wouldn't you be happier now if it costs more to fix it than give you a new one? With the warranty, I'm hoping it will fail so I can get the new versions. That's strange that you noticed that the treble was boosted...

    got a new mp3-hd player

Well, I know I don't need two hands to squeeze it down my jeans pocket. It's about the size of a deck of cards. The iPod has a 1.8 inch drive in it. I think archos has a 2.5 inch drive?

The famous RadioShack Optimus CD-3400 portable CD player Review

I own of these things too, and it still works. Well, it makes this faint clicking sound in the background now. Oh well, I don't use it anymore..

    got a new mp3-hd player

I own an iPod, and I've played around with the Archos. The Archos "feels" like it is twice as big. The iPod is probably about the size of that nomad you have on your website.

    my senn. mx500 experince....

I can listen to my mx500s all day long. I do use the radio shack foamies, but I had no problem listening to them with the stock foamies either. I guess they don't fatigue my ears.

WARNING: etymotics can blow your eardrum

If there was pressure pushing out, you would think there would be less of a problem yanking them out, since it already wants to come out. Don't a lot of people put them a little deeper than normal, then pull them out slightly to get a good seal? That seems like the worst scenario, if safety...
