Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

If I recall correctly, for a watch to be labeled "Swiss Made", only 60% of it must be mfg in Switzerland.

Whew! Finally got caught up after being away for a while. A few items for the Schiit Sine Wave: Regarding manual transmissions and Diesels, when I was a senior in high school, my folks moved out to the “country” and wanted a car that got better mileage than our 66 Chevelle, so they bought a...

    Schiit Audio Bifrost 2

Yes. However, if there are closeouts on sale, they may be of the OG Bifrost 2 variety and would need the $300 upgrade to bring them up to current spec.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Arriving late to the First Concert thread. My first concert was The Stan Kenton Orchestra at the Moore Egyptian in Seattle. Followed shortly by Maynard Ferguson in Tacoma. Bunch of the usual suspect rock/pop concerts after that, with my favorite being Dire Straits in Pullman, Washington...

Also, for more contemporary TV/film soundtracks, I've been getting increasingly interested in the work of Bear McCreary. I first learned of him from his work on Battlestar Galactica. Tons of stuff since then like Outlander, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Lord of the Rings - Rings of Power, and The...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

In re: film and TV soundtracks, I tripped over a YouTube video from Charles Cornell covering the music from Mr. Roger's Neighborhood a few days ago. He collaborated with Johnny Costa, a jazz pianist/composer and the music was performed "live" and was unique for each episode. I had no idea...

I found that in the settings you have control of how it handles WiFi vs cellular data in that regard. If you have an unlimited data plan, then you can set to stream the original file - I.e. lossless.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Just got back from a short trip and I thought I'd see if Roon ARC was as buggy as some predict. I'm actually quite impressed. I started streaming while in my garage and verified that it was using my local WiFi for data, then I drove away to see it fail when my WiFi was no longer accessible...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Thanks Jason! I ran around to a few local retailers and realized pretty quickly that 8GB cards are, to use the vernacular of the cool kids, unobtanium. Not much available at retail locations smaller than 128GB. (Amazon has 8GB cards in stock, but even with Prime, they're a week away.)...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Well, then. It must be the cards. I'll go out and get a few 8GB cards and try again. One question, though: What is "the correct way"? I've tried label-up and label-down. Neither worked. Raspberry Pi are label-down. Now I'm confused. ;-) Thanks.

I have formatted two different cards on three different operating systems: Windows, macOS, and linux. All using FAT32 and 32k cluster size. No difference in behavior. Current conclusion: I have a faulty Bifrost 2.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Thanks! My Bifrost 2 does not behave that way. I've used a 2GB card and a 32GB card with the two files in the root directory. Both had been freshly formatted. I'll contact the factory and see what options I have.

I had the same experience. How can you tell if it's applying the new firmware? The power-on sequence is identical to what has been happening before. Curious.

That was my first thought as well: would I be able to do a (slow) A/B test between the original card and the upgraded one.

Since we're posting our favorite cars, this is my daily driver. It has enough room for a pair of 6SN7 tubes. And a bottle of sunscreen. That's about it. This pic was taken of me driving on Laguna Seca's famous Corkscrew. Fun day.

(replying to my own post) Now I see that we're talking more about mechanical humming than signal hums. I've experienced that a few times too and as far as I can recall, it was location-dependent.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I recently helped to produce an on-location livestream concert event that was in a nice home in the SF Bay Area. During sound check, we were getting a lot of hum from one mic and after doing all the stage 1 diags (switch the mic, switch the cable, ground loops, etc.) we gave up for a while and...

Thanks, all, for the live album recommendations. I've already checked out a few on Qobuz and my world has expanded. Thanks! Here's my submission for favorite (at the moment) live album: Eva Cassidy - Live At Blues Alley.

Ok, now that we're talking vinyl, I recently had the opportunity to consolidate my extended family's LP collection (most were heading to Goodwill!) and am jonesing to listen to them - as well as my own collection from my youth. Two questions: (1) Any opinions on the Dual CS 518 as a...

You have my sympathy, Jason. Even during "normal times", managing a complicated supply-chain can't be fun. Doing it now? OMG. Like others, I'm being patient and hitting 'refresh' once or twice a day. (who am I kidding? once or twice an hour!) Wasn't there a Guinness advertisement that went...

What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

Due to a scheduling conflict (getting my 2nd vaccination shot) I had to watch the recording of Mike's livestream on YouTube. Oh well. It was all going great until Mike mentioned a new analog board for the Yggy. Drat! I have a Yggy on order! The shipping date has already been bumped out...

This setup replaced a Theta David II, Theta Casanova, and Sunfire Labs Cinema Grand. When the David II tray motor failed and Theta declined to repair it, I thought it was time to simplify my system and return to two-channel. I found the Schiit Lyr 3 when I needed a good headphone amp for my...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

If I remember correctly, the Red Book CD standard mandates cross interleaved Reed-Solomon error correction at the media encoding. Significantly more advanced than a parity bit. But then again, the last time that I read the Red Book was in 1982. Human memory can be faulty.

    New Member Introductions thread

I wish that I still had it. But it helped to contribute to my room and board expenses at college. It was all part of learning the lesson that stuff is just stuff. It comes and goes. I moved around a lot in my career after college so I didn't get a chance to start rebuilding a respectable...
