    AKG K501 vs Sennheiser HD580

I had HD580 for a while and then switched them for AKG 501. The reason was I did not like "darker" sound of HD580. But this is because I like clear sound with not so much bass (I prefer clear tones and vocals/instruments rather). I however do not mean HD580 sound bad. They seem as much...

    KSC-35 (50,55) and glasses

I really appreciate the info I got from this thread, seems much more than I ever hoped for . For porta vs. sporta I have very limited experience, but to my tastes sporta's sound had too much bass (in fact I dismissed them on the very first attempt). For portas: I used them only occasionally...

    KSC-35 (50,55) and glasses

Just wondering if those two things come together. I thought about trying KSC-35 as my computer / portable headphones, but only recently I realized that because I am wearing glasses I might be somehow limited. Are there any issues I should be aware of, or can both coexist quite happily on one head ?

    Sennheiser 580s very reavealing

For me HD580 simply were not the headphones for PC, because they: 1) Are of open design. That way even more noise from my PC interfere with the sound. I do not know if you want them for music listening or games, but in both cases high quality sounds from Senns gets spoiled by noisy case (at...

    Sennheiser 580s very reavealing

fyleow: I remmember from the past when I tested SB Live! that its noise was obvious even on more simple headphones (Sony MDR-CD470). Why you simply do not put Senns directly to SB and then add CMOY for comparison. I doubt any software change can help with the hiss. I even doubt that moving the...

    In love with AKG K501's

For Flasken: I am running AKG K501 from CORDA HA-1 and they do not seem to be short on anything. On the other hand it looks like they are more inert to higher signal so I can turn my volume for some CDs (passages) a bit higher than with previous HD580, but in overall I listen on the same level...

    In love with AKG K501's

This thread just remainds me that I have sold my HD580 just to get K501 solely based on discussions on this forum few weeks ago. And I have already been a new owner of K501 for few days. Meanwhile I thought about what was the real "issue" with HD580 and if there even was any. My experience...

I have got new AKG K501 and new problem

Nezer: Thanks for the tip, I have (thinking about using brute force ) not noticed the little screws. Replacing the whole headband seems like the good idea now, though I will miss the aesthetics of AKG leather . The "stoppers" really hold fast, I rather would not dare hassle with them. Beagle...

I have got new AKG K501 and new problem

Bit of a background first. I have sold my HD580. Not that they were bad (more likely the opposite - the best sounding headphones I ever had), but I thought they did not sound to my expectation. I do not want ot start flame here about Sennheisers being veiled or not. I had decided even before...

    Headphones for 3d positional sound

I was using for last four years Sony MDR-CD470, whose are probably out or production now. Along with that I was using Diamond MX300 soundcard which is equipped with Aureal Vortex 2. Even though Aureal is dead for several years I still have not heard anything better in terms of 3D positional...

Strange noise from HD580 & unbalance problem

If you can just swap the signals I would try it first. I have heard that Sennheiser cables could be hard to attach once removed, or they become loose after reattaching. I would try avoid that.

Strange noise from HD580 & unbalance problem

Strange you mentioned it. I have the same feeling sometimes when listening to my HD 580. Everytime in left ear. I have tried to reproduce it, but the results are not convincing and I am more and more suspecting some evil auto-suggestion here . I do not have this feeling with my closed Sony's...

    Sennheiser HD280 pro: first impressions

If anyone still monitors this thread, I have recently found two flavors: HD280 Pro (64 ohm) and HD280-13 (300 ohm) here. What impedance are yours HD280 and do they need to be powered from headamp? There is also variant HMD280 Pro with microphone which might suit my needs for solid quality headset.

Newbie to newbie guide how to get things

M Rael: Your good will is definitely appreciated here . However, when I think about what I might need next (looking at my inventory suggests some quality source), it seems I will probably end up with something "international" rather than U.S. specific .

RickG: I did my best, in fact, even Him (Jan Meier) said, it is almost perfect clone . Possum: The cost of BOPLA profile (already anodized) was CZK 877 (USD 24), manufacturing of both lids (including material, excluding anodizing) cost CZK 1464 (USD 40), black anodizing was for box of...

Newbie to newbie guide how to get things

I have put my recent experience and thoughts about general thing mostly relevant to newbies of this forum (and Headwize as well) into this webpage: Getting headphones, headamp and such things It covers, how did I get my Sennheiser HD580, how did I not get my CD player, how did I clone CORDA...

    inexpensive amp for Senn 580's?

Recently, I have got new Sennhesier HD580 and started to think that my portable CDP is not up to them, so I went out and started intensive research about what should be best upgrade. I have tried few Sony's (XB-930, 940, 730), DENON (735, 1550), some Technics (SL-P7?), Harman-Kardon (I do not...

    X-cans v2 review

Nacher: Do not get desperate I believe even that Aureal Vortex is good hardware it is not the right one to source X-Can HD600 combo. Try some normal CDP before you get rid of X-Can. I am suspsicious that the subtleties in sound are hard to percieve in computer noise and you might give up...

    X-cans v2 review

Just to add, accidentally I happen to sport Vortex2 based card (Diamond MX300) in my computer too. This card has very good S/N ratio (for mainstream PC cards) and also has no problem driving my HD580. I cannot comment on its DAC or other qualities, but just like to point out it is not complete...

    X-cans v2 review

This is interesting point you did Nacher. Recently I was auditioning X-Can(v2) with my HD580 headphones and compared them to the headphone output of my portable CDP Technics SL-XP350 (7 years old). X-Can(v2) amp was connected to portable link output. After few hours of switching from one source...

    Buying used software + licenses

The licenses usually differ for different kinds of software and also for different editions. For example OEM software (the one you buy pre-installed on computer) can be sold only with the hardware. So you cannot buy new Compaq with preinstalled Windows OEM version and then sell Windows...
