Never heard "grey sounding" before TBH :o2smile: This might be a taboo here but I use parametric EQ with both suede and lambskin pads. After a week of EQ, you can't go back. something is missing in the stock tuning IMO.

Sundara closed is awful! They sound nothing close to the open version. Audeze Sine is not comfortable at all. Maybe look into Aeon Closed X which is discounted right now for 380$ on drop. The sound signature is close enough to Deva and they're super comfortable.

Well that's unfortunate to hear. Guess I'll have to look elsewhere.

I wonder if anyone is using EQ with their Aeolus. This is my favorite tuning at the moment (w/ Suede pads): Adds a bit of sub-bass boost and sparkle + getting rid of that 5k-ish bump.

Looks really interesting. Any info on size/weight and does it have a display or EQ (hopefully parametric) capabilites?

Do we have the specs? Impedance, sensitivity, maybe frequency response graphs?

If you're not happy with the bass performance, no amount of break-in will change your mind. It's just your brain adjusting to the sound. I also found that after some weeks of use, the earpad's thickness shrunk and that helps with the sense of impact (just push the cups into your ears by hand)...

If you're fine with the weight and size of LCD-X then yes. LCD-X has better dynamics, better bass (especially when EQed), more resolution and better controlled treble IMO.

For under 2000$ I'd say Hifiman Arya Stealth is an excellent planar. It's recently discounted to 1299$ which is a steal! It's on the brighter side but It's the best all-rounder I've heard under 2K$. It improves upon everything you like about Sundara. (Details, Soundstage, bass extension, timbre...

That is correct. There's so many compelling options in this price range. LCD-X, Clear, Arya, Auteur or even a used OG HE6. But I think I've made my mind now, thanks.

Nah, I've sold my Edition X a year ago. I miss the way it presented sound though, So I think I'll go with the Arya. I'm not sure if I can handle the weight of LCD-X.

Looking at your headphones, which one do you think is a better compliment to Aeolus? Arya SE or LCD-X? I'm thinking Arya because it's a wider more detailed headphone.

I'm currently using Jotunheim 2 with my Aeolus and I'm happy with it. But recently I've come across a deal on Lyr 3 and I can exchange My Jot 2 with Lyr 3. Would you guys recommend it? (I might get an Arya Stealth too in near future)

It's not intended. However this is quite common to scratch or dent the paint on the rod while adjusting the headband. The rod is simply painted black and not anodized like the yokes, AFAIK.

I really like the synergy between Jotunheim 2 and Aeolus as well, although I'm using them with Suede pads. Unfortunately the QC on Schiit products is not good in recent products. My ES9028 DAC card failed for no reason after a week and so did my friend's! I've seen numerous similar problems too...

These are definitely memory foams. I've never had any problems or discomfort around my ears. The only problem I have (with the old headband) is the hotspot on top of my head which I assume can be fixed with the Crescent band. Aeolus is not as comfortable as my old Edition X V2 or Beyer T1 but...

I think you're supposed to use perforated pads with Aeolus (can't see perforations on your photo). My experience with Aeolus w/ suede perf pads is not at all bass heavy. Sure they're bassier compared to some more neutral headphones but still really balanced to my ears. I think Universe suede...

Yeah I must agree too. OG Hifiman HE6 and LCD-4 are the best in this regard. Unfortunately both are discontinued. You can find more LCD-4s though on the used market.

You can also use the old headband's steel band with the new crescent headband. So the clamp force will remain the same.

Then it will be interesting to see how they sound with universe suede perforated pads, my choice of earpads with Aeolus.
