    Shure SRH1540 Review

You should also try tweaking your software player. Try Playpcmwin.

What's the best USB audio cable for the money?

Did you try tweaking the cable to match your system. Phasure Lush and Ifi Gemini are the only two cables I know that are configurable to different systems.

What does tin plating do for power? Silver playing for data makes sense since with high frequencies, skin effect pushes the charges to the edges of the conductor. What’s the special electrical property of tin? Does it do well with large input currents? Or is it merely cost saving?

    Sennheiser HD820

I was surprised how awesome hd800 sound out of apogee groove (I prefer the groove over quite a few desktop amps for the hd800. It handles headphones not requiring lot of current very well). Maybe you could give it a consideration too. Or if you’re looking for something modern, maybe the questyle...

Introducing the Questyle M15 & the brand new Questyle Shop!

Looking forward to your new product. Hopefully it can be more powerful if it’s battery powered as it would no longer rely on usb power supply.

Introducing the Questyle M15 & the brand new Questyle Shop!

Many portable devices exist (I am looking at ifi as an option due to Mqa support and their custom filter) but I would be more inclined to questyle because the design/filter choices are better aligned with my preferences (except for being not battery powered)

Would questyle be interested to make a battery powered m15 with maybe more output power?

Please help me identify a USB DAC dongle that is NOS and tube sounding

You mean like ifi idsd Diablo? Or bakoon hpa01? The Diablo can do NOS

Please help me identify a USB DAC dongle that is NOS and tube sounding

Is cayin ru6 something that might interest you? Also, the choice of digital filter can change the output noticeably. On akm dacs I like the super slow filters, if you have dacs that allow filter swapping you can try changing those.

    Which tiny, powered speakers?

If you’re interested in Bluetooth, Logitech x50 and x100 are very good. (Also have a coax in). I actually found expensive Bluetooth speakers to sound bad (just sound loud and use quite aggressive dsp). Apparently Sony also has a decent budget portable speaker but forgot the name (sbs or...

best sounding player win10 audio (free)

Wtfplay is great! Xxhighend is even better (I love the custom upsampler). Yet to try pure asio player. Is it available for free?

    Sennheiser HD820

It can even be about measurement settings inconsistencies. Headphone is not the same as a resistor and real world systems are not linear time invariant.

What's the best USB audio cable for the money?

Glad you found a budget option that worked well for you! I bought two usb cables that together costed close to half the price of my dac (dac is a budget one 😅).

Introducing the Questyle M15 & the brand new Questyle Shop!

The numbers don't show anything audibly concerning to be honest. And resistors are not a 1:1 replacement of headphone for analysis purposes. Resistors have no mechanical load or movement, while a headphone does. While I am yet to buy a questyle m15, I do have an apogee groove, which uses current...

Looks cool. What is the amplifier that you’re using, and what’s the other device that goes along with it?

What's the best USB audio cable for the money?

If you are fine with the spacing restrictions, uptone uspcb is awesome! It’s not really a cable but rather a pcb connecting from pc to dac. If you’re going expensive it would be preferable to find one with tweakable connectors and properties like phasure lush 3 or ifi Gemini. The overall...

The earlier cable might have not had enough shielding I guess. Might be possible to probe and check too.

Introducing the Questyle M15 & the brand new Questyle Shop!

Groove does work with phones but the output will be limited by the transient current supply capability of the phone, and hence generally sounds more controlled on a PC with respect to power. Anyway, my main target is full size headphones so more clean power is what I desire first and foremost...

Introducing the Questyle M15 & the brand new Questyle Shop!

Any idea how the m15 compares to Apogee groove, especially for driving headphones requiring significant current (my srh1540 requires quite a lot of current for full potential). I like the amplifier topology, the analog section implementation of the apogee groove but am not very fond of the sinc...

Introducing the Questyle M15 & the brand new Questyle Shop!

Why is it limited to renderer instead of full decoder? Power consumption and space limits (for the usb transceiver and processor)? I am interested in the m15 (to replace my current transportables), but I wish for a slightly more powerful, battery powered unit, preferably with full mqa decoder...

I currently have the apogee groove. I find it’s amplifier section to be great with moderate sensitivity high impedance headphones like hd800, so much that I prefer the groove over many desktop amps. But with low sensitivity cans that need higher current, the groove shows it’s limitations...

What is the best way to bypass/decrapify computer audio?

I don’t think any of the PC audio deniers here have tried any customisation on how their OS handles the components and audio path. With a low profile distro like wtfplay (basically almost shuts down all components other than ones necessary to just keep the system running and feed usb out, and...

My "subjective" experience with AKM vs ESS DAC chip "sound signature".

If you have the chance, play around with the interpolation profiles (also called over-sampler settings in some cases). I really like the super slow profile (marketed as the more natural/life like profile by AKM) on AKM DACs, especially with music sampled at 88khz or higher (truly sampled at...
