Sennheiser HD1 On Ear Headband Modification, With Caution
Friends, I love my HD1 headphones and use them more than any other. However, the band is very poorly designed and makes for a decent but not perfect fit. If you think you can just "pop or twist off" the ear cups please read on as there are 2 small screws, with lots of thread lock, holding the...- jpover

Sennheiser Momentum on-ear: is it possible to move the speakers further up to the 2nd slot?
Friends, I just received a set of Sennheiser Momentum on-ear headphones. Is it possible to move the headphone speakers/ear cups up to the second slot on the adjustment band? It looks like they can just pop off but I don't want to break anything and the net doesn't reveal much about...- jpover

ATH-M50 Removable Cable Mod
Quote: I'd avoid replacing the factory wires if possible. Having to add new wire turned this job from less than an hour into half a day (I only recently learned to solder effectively.). I did not notice a sonic difference between the factory wire and the heavier wire that I used to...- jpover

ATH-M50 Removable Cable Mod
Almost forgot, I did not want to cut the driver housing, so I cut the plug instead to make everything fit: Further, if you plan on using thread locker, be sure you're done soldering. I had a tough time resoldering the plug because I could not remove it without breaking something due to...- jpover

ATH-M50 Removable Cable Mod
OK, did the MOD successfully! Sadly, I had the whole project done and finished but went back to add thread locker and then lost a connection on the reassembly – whoa, what a pain! Some lessons learned: - Practice on cheap wire - Tin the wires - Tape or secure...- jpover

Are there any headphones that COMPLETELY block out noise even w/o music playing?
This is an interesting question; subscribed. Of note, I can speak about what I know: ATH-ANC7b provides moderate/bearable noise reduction By far, the best performing earplugs I've found are these (even good to sleep with): Hearos Xtreme Protection, 33NRR Take the two together...- jpover

Got the audio technica ath-m50x headphones, should i burn them in?
I have the old ATH-M50s and I did not do a burn in but then again I listen quite a bit. I have not noticed a substantial accuracy shift / sound change over time. However, I'd also be curious to know what is considered an appropriate or recommended burn in time.- jpover

long time audioholic, new to head-fi
Howdy, I've been an audioholic for quite some time, but am new to this site. I came here at the advice of some folks on audioholics.com as I'm doing research on a new set of full size headphones. I'm just about settled on making some modifications to what I have (shorter cord for my...- jpover

need help selecting new cans
Pardon if you're tried this already - have you thought about trying some with an amp? I don't like the hassle of an amp since I mostly listen with my laptop. However, I had a cheap little ART headphone amp (ART HeadAmp 4 to be specific) a while back that made a great deal of difference in the...- jpover

I know what you mean about the wallet! I have used a handful of full size and in-ear head phones over the years (some I still have): Bose Tri Ports (broken and tossed long ago) Sennheiser HD280Pro (2007 or so; given away to an audiophile buddy after upgrading to ATH-M50) Sony ear buds for...- jpover
