I've only had these things since March of 2015 and the cable is already falling apart. The metal piece that they put in the cable to make the cable stay in place behind your ear has broken in two and caused the wire to fray.  I contacted Shure support, but they sent me to the repairs section...

Awesome review. I've been looking at IEMs with removable cables for a bit. Nice to know that the Shure is somewhat detailed. The Shure is going to be my next audio related purchase.

I'm just gonna drop a good chunk on some IEM's with a removable cable. I'm sick of these things going out on me and not being replaceable, of course without mods.

I'm mainly going off of what I felt/feel about the DT770. I felt as if the M50x is a bit more bass oriented than the DT770. I should include that I'm saying this against the M50x, not at the DT770 itself.

DT770 has a pretty neutral/natural sound. I've never heard the HD25, so I won't be able to comment on it.

They're decent. I think they're better than the M50/M50x because everything is just more organized. 

80 ohm.   In both, the Beyers are a step up. Great potential for the money compared to the M50x. 

The Beyerdynamic sounds much more neutral and has much more tighter bass than the ATH-M50. If I were to go back in time, would have laid hands on the Beyerdynamic first. 

I wrote a letter to Audio Technica and they said they'll send me some replacements, free. I'm definitely gonna get the velour pads for the M50x for the future.

Nope, I haven't done any cleaning to the pads, if that's what you're asking. This is happening with normal use, so I may write something up to Audio Technica and maybe they can send me another pair because pads that were claimed to be improved and and much better should be looking like this...

The leatherette stuff is starting flake off onto my fingers every once in a while when I take the headphone off of my head. It's starting to get pretty bad, and honestly, I expect fore the m to las t lest than a year from now. Probably a decently short six months until they finally start to be...

My pads are wearing out, but they're still pretty fine. I think they'll have to be replaced in a year most likely.

I love the cable(s) for the M50x. They're pretty thick, but I think the part near the jacks could be metal, though.   I'd say get them if there isn't much else out that you think is worthwhile.

Man, what pisses me off about mine is that they are so damn easy to tangle, with the cloth covered ones, at-least. I spend more time untangling these ear buds than actually having them in my ears.   I've been using these on and off for a while, and I've decided that they're pretty good. The...

You could cause stress to the cable obviously. The sound wouldn't be effected much, at-least I don't think so.

Just take the screws out and be careful not to yank the wire to the driver out with it.

Anyone wondering if they should get regular M50s over the M50x should definitely consider the M50x. The M50 feels so CHEAP in direct comparison.

Just received these, not surprised since I have another Monoprice product (8323), the packaging is janky, and this one came torn. After a few days of listening, I'll give my impressions.
