If you own or have owned the ATH-A500's... I need your opinion!

I personally don't think ATH-A500s aren't meant to be used with a Discman. I own a Sony D-EJ955 Discman, and I can't get the performance I'd expect from the A500s with the Discman, it simply can't drive the headphones. However, my iPod drives the headphones perfectly. Another thing to...

Looking for amps in the sub-$100 range

rab10: I wouldn't ask if I knew the answer in the first place... =) Anyway, I'm still trying to decide which way to go:I can replace the A500s with HD280s and go w/o an amp I can use the A500s w/o an amp for some time, trying to stand the clipping and/or listen at low volumes I can get an amp...

Looking for amps in the sub-$100 range

^ But is Porta Corda better than the other amps in my list? Anyway, here's a new question: If I bought a CD player instead (e.g. NAD 521i), would its headphone out be powerful enough to drive the headphones I've mentioned?

Background noise on M-Audio Sonica Theater & Creative Inspire 6.1

My roommate has recently purchased an M-Audio Sonica Theater to use with his existing Creative Inspire 6.1 speaker system, and everything's fine when we don't use the 3rd cable (Center, Rear Center & Subwoofer). However, when we plug that 3rd cable (the orange one), there's an incredible...

    So, thats another -$200

Congrats on your purchase. I'm not happy with my A500s (probably because I don't have an amp), hope things work out better for you with your A900s and CMOY.

    New guy

I'm relatively new too (nevermind the registration date, I started visiting regularly and posting a few weeks ago), and my recommendation would be to run away before it's too late... I've already spent $100, and I'm currently looking for a $150 amp.

    M-Audio Transit

M-Audio Transit is not a headphone amplifier, but a sound card. M-Audio builds very high qualirt sound cards, so if you'll be using a computer set-up, M-Audio might be a good place to start. Then you'll add an amp. EDIT: Btw, HeadRoom BitHead is both an external soundcard and a headphone...

    Audio-Technica ATH-A500: Initial impressions & concerns after a week's use

Below are my initial impressions and concerns about my pair of A500s I just received a week ago. FYI, the phones have around 50 hours of burn-in, and my current sources are a Sony D-EJ955 PCDP and Sony MZ-R91 MD recorder. Size: They're HUGE! The thread about pictures not doing justice was...

Looking for amps in the sub-$100 range

Again, thank you all for your suggestions... =) I've extended my budget to $150, but I'm not willing to spend more on an amp... I don't care that much about portability, and that sweetness of the MINTs that you're talking about might not be the best thing for me, someone who listens to...

Looking for amps in the sub-$100 range

Thank you both for your recommendations, I guess I'll get a Xin Super Mini/Micro. How do the Super Mini/Micro compare to MINTs? And how do they compare against each other? Is the micro worth the extra $30? (besides the smaller size?) EDIT: Or should I get a HeadRoom AirHead for $150 instead?

Looking for amps in the sub-$100 range

Hi again, As a complete newbie to headphone amps, someone who has recenlty bough his first high-impedance cans (that suffer from clipping at high-volumes when driven by 5mW sources), and someone who's willing to get even better (read: even higher-impedance) cans in the future, I realized that...

    Distortion on A500s

bangraman: I don't use any bass assist, and there's no problem at lower volumes. D-EJ915: I don't recall hearing any distortion/clipping with other headphones, could it be the combination of a crappy output & high (64 Ohms) impedance? Zuerst: In contradiction with your experience, I get no...

    Distortion on A500s

As some of you know, I've recently purchased a pair of A500s. They only have around 25-30 hours of burn-in yet, and I don't think I ever did anything that could "hurt" the drivers. However, I get an annoying distortion when I turn the volume higher than, say, 80%. I don't have a headphone...

    Just Got My A500~!

I also received my pair on Wednesday, and they're fantastic... =)) However, they only have around 25 hours of burn-in yet, and I hope they'll improve with more burn-in... For now, I'm trying to visit Head-Fi as little as possible, so I don't go and purchase another pair of cans before it's...

Should I Get Some D66 Egoos?

I haven't heard the Sennheiser PXx00 series, but I can say that the D66s are as good as portable & stylish headphones go. PXx00 users say that those are great too, but I personally don't find them stylish. Besides, I have a feeling that they can't be as comfortable as D66s.

    How to transfer funds internationally?

From my experience, I can tell that Western Union is much cheaper than wire transfer. However, PayPal would probably be the best solution if applicable. What I said might sound irrelevant, but wire transfer usually costs a lot, try to use something else if you can.
