Fiio E9 power supply noise? Any alternative power supplies?
I have a Fiio E9 that was gift about a couple years ago, so it's out of warranty. Its AC adapter makes a constant noise that's annoying me since I rearranged my desk and moved it closer. I'm talking about an acoustic noise that emanates from the power supply, not electrical noise. It is present...- riker1384

Best way to ship headphones internationally?
Right now I have a couple pairs of headphones for sale. I listed them as available in the US, but one of them is bring me multiple requests to ship them to exotic locations. (2 people from Brunei and 1 from India.) What's the most cost-effective, and reasonably cheap way to ship cans overseas? I...- riker1384

Reasonably priced, comfortable closed cans with decent isolation?
I've been using Bose AE2's for when I need closed cans. The sound quality isn't great, sort of tin-canny, but it's not too bad, and the comfort and isolation are good. I've tried various "audiophile-approved" closed cans but they've all disappointed me in one way or another. Some are...- riker1384

Switching from HD580 to HD598 or HD558?
I have a pair of HD580 and I like them, but the low sensitivity bothers me. My iMac just barely drives them to good levels if I turn it all the way up, and my Ipod is the same (and that hurts battery life). I really don't to deal with the money and hassle of a headphone amp. I was thinking of...- riker1384

HD515 good enough for a non-audiophile?
I have an opportunity to buy a pair of NIB HD515 at a good price. I was thinking of getting them for a friend of mine who isn't an audiophile, who has an apartment where he can't crank up music all the time. I've heard the HD555 before, but not the 515. Is it respectable? I'm wondering whether I...- riker1384

Can the foam mod be done on the HD558?
Has anybody examined the HD558 and HD598 to see if they have the same relationship as the HD555 and HD595, with the same drivers but a piece of foam added on the lower one? So, can you modify the 558 to be like the 598? Has anyone done this?- riker1384

All phones should have 1/8" plugs, with 1/4" adapters
All headphones should have 1/8" plugs, and come with a 1/4" adapter, rather than the other way around. I think they just put 1/4" jacks on them because it makes them look higher end. An 1/8" plug works just fine with a 1/4" adapter attached. The converse isn't true. When you put an 1/8"...- riker1384

Why don't they make active headphones?
Why aren't there any active headphone designs? That is, a headphone with a matching equalizer, and probably an amp. I am not an engineer, but it seems to me that active design would be even more useful in headphones than in speakers. Headphones are like single-driver speakers, there is no...- riker1384

Just how bad is AD700's lack of bass? Can it be fixed with EQ?
I was thinking of getting a pair of AD700, they seem to be well-liked and I have to spend lass than $100. The only major complaint I see about them is the bass. From the Headroom graph, they look -5db around 50 hz and the -10 is below 35hz. That's not great, but it sounds comparable to a pair of...- riker1384

Disappointed by HD555 upgrade from HD497
I have a pair of Sennheiser HD-497 that I got a few years ago. They were my first quality, open phones. I just picked up a pair of HD-555 that were going cheap on Craigslist. I looked them up, they have good Amazon reviews at a higher price point and several people there and in forums said they...- riker1384

Will AAC support ever become widespread?
I use iTunes and I have many CDs ripped to AAC. It's a bit frustrating that so many players don't play AAC, limiting me to iPods and a few other players. AAC is generally regarded as better than mp3, but it's been around for a long time and most products (when you count cheap players, car...- riker1384

Does anyone make a female Ipod connector to male 1/8" cable?
There are lots of products such as Ipod speakers that use Apple's dock connector. Some of them don't have aux inputs. The Ipods have a female docking port, so these accessories have male Dock connectors. I'm reluctant to buy that sort of product because they could become obsolete if Apple...- riker1384

Good mp3 player for use in car?
My brother carries a big cd collection in his car. I was thinking of buying him an mp3 player for Xmas so he wouldn't have to do that. He uses Linux, so I think that means he can't use an Ipod since that requires Itunes software. I don't know how much memory he'll be needing, so I was thinking a...- riker1384

Anyone have problems with Logitech Pure-Fi auto-off?
The Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 has good overall reviews, but some people have had trouble with the auto-off feature shutting down during quiet passages. The only solution Logitech offers is to turn the volume way up if you're using something with the aux input, which would run the batteries...- riker1384

Should I get Nano, or other player that does AAC?
I was planning on getting a 16GB Nano, but I'd like to explore other options as well, at equal or lesser cost. I have a lot of AACs, so I need to be able to play those. I have about 10 gigs of music and 2 gigs of podcasts now. I was thinking the Sansa View looked like a good choice, since it...- riker1384

Are USB chargers basically commodities?
I see a lot of USB wall and car chargers really cheap, less than $5. They just have a USB socket and they're really light, switching power supplies I guess. Are they all basically the same, so I can just buy any of them?- riker1384

Any alternative AAC players?
So the new Ipods don't work with older Mac OS. What other choices do I have? Most of my collection is unprotected mp4 ripped from CDs. Are there any other ones that will play these with good sound quality? Right now my collection is 10 gigs, but it will probabbly get bigger.- riker1384

Does Ipod Classic need a film cover?
I got an Ipod Classic. Do they need those protective films you can buy? The Nano supposedly did, but I haven't heard about the Classic. Since I have the Nano, I won't be taking the Classic jogging or anything. The metal case should be fine, but what about the video screen?- riker1384

Quick, choose an mp3 player for my mom!
I don't know nothin' except Ipods and I hear Creative is big. I'm going to get a minisystem that rips CDs straight to a USB port. I need a basic, USB device type mp3 player. Other hard-drive AAC players?
I have a Nano and all my files are in 128k AAC. I was thinking of getting something bigger, but if I get an Ipod I won't know what to do with the Nano.
