I have a pair of HD580 and I like them, but the low sensitivity bothers me. My iMac just barely drives them to good levels if I turn it all the way up, and my Ipod is the same (and that hurts battery life). I really don't to deal with the money and hassle of a headphone amp. I was thinking of trading the HD580 for a pair of HD598. Does anyone own both of these? How do they compare?
The HD598 gets good reviews, and looking at its frequency response (both here: http://www.innerfidelity.com/headphone-data-sheet-downloads), it looks very similar to the HD600 except the 598 has a small peak in the
Also, I was thinking of the HD558 since it's cheaper, I prefer its color to the 598, and it seems to be similar to the 598. Also the headphone.com FR graphs for the 558 and 598 look the same except for a region in the upper mids where the 558 is stronger.
