Hi, Sorry to resurrect this ancient thread of mine. But it seemed a good idea so that hopefully anyone who'd posted on it all those years ago and were interested in my recordings would see the reply. I recently did a couple of new binaural recordings when I took a visit to the coast and...- jimbobuk

Stax SRM-717 wont power up
After a mixup with the ebay seller i brought the fuses from i finally got some fuses through today... slotted one in tonight (rather ingeniously (i thought) wrapping it up in 3 plastic bread bag ties and using that to be able to manouvere it under the PCB of the transformer and then pull it back...- jimbobuk

Broken Darth Beyer lead - easy repair?
Since my HD600's default lead had a dodgy channel i've been using my Darth Beyer's for my main headphone full time.. they've always had their own quirk with the channels which has now started to get annoying. Basically the left channel cuts out unless i squeeze the end of the lead going into the...- jimbobuk

Stax SRM-717 wont power up
i've had a browse around online, looks hard to find an exact match.. can find a 0.8A fast blow fuse at maplin but its only 20mm, and its more like 30mm for this fuse.. Maplin > 11/4in (31mm) Quickblow (F) is the closest i've seen, but not THAT close.. perhaps slightly bigger by a mm or so...- jimbobuk

Stax SRM-717 wont power up
i managed to get it out... getting it back in could be tricky.. i think plastic coated bread ties may help, they can hold and support it whilst not getting in the way.. but its a very tight squeeze.. Written on the fuse is A TOYO and 250v 0,8A so will try to look for a suitable...- jimbobuk

Stax SRM-717 wont power up
brilliant. Makes sense. What is your idea for an equivalently safe way of taking the fuse out, i don't want to break the central clear core trying to lever it out, but i dont see any other way of getting access to it.- jimbobuk

Stax SRM-717 wont power up
Thanks i will give it a try.. to be honest I agree getting it back in may be tricky... to get out do i just need to use a screwdriver to lever it out from the centre of the fuse? Trying to pull at it gently and the whole board its on moves slightly so i don't fancy putting too much force into...- jimbobuk

Stax SRM-717 wont power up
Thanks for the info. I'd already got Symmetry's number and may give them a call tomorrow. I followed your advice and carefully took the lid off. Peeking around inside no obvious signs of anything melting.. I could see 3 clear fuses, hard to see anything inside, but the one nearest to the...- jimbobuk

Stax SRM-717 wont power up
I got home tonight and just happened to look and notice that the light was off on my Stax SRM-717, i assumed it'd had had the power switch turned off, but sadly it hadn't. I've checked everything, moved it out so i can get a good look at it, checked the fuse in the power cable, nothing. It...- jimbobuk

Soundblaster XFI via 16/44-48 DAC and 3D headphones
thanks Evisu, but for the long term future I plan to still use my Tag Mclaren DAC 20.. I dont have any need for higher resolution formats as such, and dont really believe that i'll hear the difference. Mainly though I've invested thousands and am content and keen to listen to my CDs through it...- jimbobuk

Soundblaster XFI via 16/44-48 DAC and 3D headphones
does this effect get output in my required format down the digital outs 16bit 44-48khz ? Thats the real important question for me.. If it does i also assume someone who owns the card could do an mp3 recording of the effect when playing a movie i also own so i could compare the mp3 to my...- jimbobuk

How hot does a Stax SRM-717 energiser get?
And also how is this hotness when compared to the SRM-313 which I've found to stay nothing but cool apart from when heated by its background (by a nearby speaker amp). Is the hotness evenly spread or do certain parts get hotter than others? I'm considering upgrading from the 313 to the...- jimbobuk

Best Soundstage
surely the AKG K1000s deserve a mention, they're soundstage is pretty much unique in the headphone world. A bit out of your budget though, especially with their amp requirements.- jimbobuk
