Shure SE535: Reviews and First Impressions Thread

I definitely agree. I actually don't love the sound of them from my AK300 via my Mojo because it has to be without EQ, but just using the AK on the standard 'Pro' EQ setting works really well. So as a travel light option, that works well for me.

Completely agree with your review. I've just retried the new 2016 version and found them to sound no better than the originals, and are disappointingly dull, so these too will be sold on.

Pictures of Your Portable Rig (part XVI)

Need to take some pics but my portable set up (and I'd call it portable rather than mobile cos it's quite a lump) consists of a Chord Mojo in the proper case, sandwiched by an Astell & Kern AK300 and a Anker PowerCore 13000. I don't walk around listening but do a lot at work or in hotel rooms...

    Astell&Kern AK380

So folks are noting their concerns regarding A&K's pricing, but are those concerns really justified? I don't own an AK380 but just picked up a new (other than a torn cellophane wrapper) AK300 for £630, which is basically twice what I paid for my DX80. So given that the DX80 is a typically...

Astell&Kern Announces the AK300 and AK Recorder (5.6MHz DSD Recorder) at Tokyo Headphone Festival

Ah, right. Thanks. I'd been used to DAPs that had separate high and low gain options

Astell&Kern Announces the AK300 and AK Recorder (5.6MHz DSD Recorder) at Tokyo Headphone Festival

I may be being stupid but the Gain setting on my AK300 is set on low and is greyed out so I can't set to high. What am I missing?

Have you tried swapping the cards? That is to say, are you sure it's the slot and it the card?

FAT32 or exFAT both work fine, I think FAT32 is only needed for the car you use to load new firmware.   Just use either Windows explorer or Mac Disk Utility to 'erase' and format the card to either format.  Makes no odds whether you choose to name the cards but I usually call them 'DX80 SD1 &...

Good point, don't know. I did fully charge it today and vey shorty after it was down to 97% even though I'd not used it. Also it charged to full very quickly which makes we wonder if the capacity is as much as it should be

I've noted a few mentions of battery issues and wonder if I may have one. My DX80 is less than a year and has been very lightly used in that time. Recently I have started using it quite a lot and have been really impressed with the sound driving my HD800s. However I am not getting anywhere near...

OK, problem solved.   I don't know why, but even though I could see both cards and their content using the DX80 as a reader, when I plugged the 'faulty' card into a standard card reader and plugged it in, my Mac said it was readable and needed formatting.   Formatted in the same way again...

I've got a weird card issue which I would appreciate any help with.   Two different micro SDXC cards 128GB each, one Sandisk one Toshiba. Both formated as FAT32 MS-DOS on a Mac using Disc Utility. Both visible as external disks in Finder with the DX80 plugged in as a card reader and both cards...

    Audeze EL-8: The EL-8 is a must-hear at CES 2015

Just the usual for any open vs closed versions of the same phone really. Bigger sound stage vs slightly deeper, tighter bass mainly, but it's more down to how and and where you will use them, and whether the sound isolation is important.

    Audeze EL-8: The EL-8 is a must-hear at CES 2015

I've just repurchased a current 2016 model, having previously owned and sold on an original 2015 pair which I found somewhat dull sounding. The new 2016 versions have a noticeably brighter sound, but not bright in outright terms, and I'll be keeping them. Yet again, I have to complement the...

    Introducing Lotoo PAW Gold

For any of you old enough to remember cassette tapes and Sony Walkmen, the Lotoo PAW Gold is like the Walkman Pro of DAPs - it's quite bulky and quite ugly, but it just crushes the opposition with it's engineering and audio performance. If you, like me, are a fan of form which follows function...

    Audeze EL-8: The EL-8 is a must-hear at CES 2015

I owned an original pair of open EL8 but sold them as I found them too laid back in the treble. Is the current version noticeably different or would the LCD-X be a livelier option?

    AKG K702 Impressions.

As far as I'm concerned the AKG K702 is without doubt, one of the great headphone bargain buys. This a a headphone that was frequently reviewed in groups that cost much more (inc the HD800 for example) and always did well. That was impressive at its original price, but at the £120-ish ($170-ish)...

Review by 'twelvebears' on item 'Audeze EL-8 Open-Back'

So I treated my myself to a pair of EL-8 OB for Xmas and had really high hopes given the Audeze pedigree.   There are many really positive aspects to these headphones. They are beautifully put together (I experienced no issues with the connectors), very comfortable to wear for log periods and...

    iBasso DX80 . . impressions and reviews. . and discussion NEW FW: 1.6.0 ** link . . 1st page . . .

To do that the DX80 would have to convert DSD to PCM internally so it could be output as SPDIF only for you to then convert that PCM again externally. Double conversion would do SQ no favours obviously. As I said, the best best option would be for iBasso to enable digital output over both USB...

Regarding 'noises' when starting, stopping and skipping tracks.   As I stated in a previous post, on FW 1.1.4. with FAT32 formatted cards loaded with ALAC files, I have no issues or noises whatsoever when playing audio to headphones from the DX80 directly.   However, when the DX80 is...

My understanding is that DSD output requires a USB connection, it cannot be done via PCM (optical or electrical SPDIF), so this would require the DX80 to also be able to do digital out over USB, which as far as I know, it cannot.

So my new DX80 arrived yesterday and I've been having a play. Unfortunately an Xmas/NY bug has caused an ear infection leaving me temporarily deaf in one ear, so SQ comments will have to wait - for now this is just my experiences regarding GUI and usability in light of previous posts regarding...

    Audeze EL-8: The EL-8 is a must-hear at CES 2015

I can only comment re the HD650s as I've not heard the Hifiman phones. I would say the EL-8s (open backed) are more open and offer a bigger sound stage, also have a more extended treble and tighter, more defined bass. Also the higher price of the Audeze phones is reflected in very significantly...

    Audeze EL-8: The EL-8 is a must-hear at CES 2015

As you say, it's all relative. AKG K702s are noted for their brightness but I love their openness and sound staging enough to forgive them. I'm sure if my other cans were HD600s I'd feel differently!
