Jecklin Float Model 1 arrived today!
Man, it only took 6 days for my Jecklin Float Model 1 to arrive from Australia (HOPE! The bladder trouble getting better . . . LOVE! EWAN!). They look exactly like the Model 2 as featured in the recent thread on the now invisible certifiably inane board. Here's the picture from that CI...- arnett

Can someone post a quick comparison between the Philips DVD963SA and the Sony DVP-NS5
I’m desperately in need of a new source. I’m currently using a Sony DVP-NC650V DVD/SACD player. The 650V is the 5-disc version of the 500V. The overall sound of this unit with my SinglePower MPX3 is harsh and mechanical sounding. I think the MPX3 is just too revealing to use with the cheap Sony...- arnett

Strange results of AQ Sorbothane feet
I bought a set of Audioquest Little Feet from a local audio store a few days ago. Funny thing is, I think I can hear and see a difference. I have them placed under my cheaper Sony DVP-NC650V DVD/SACD player. It seems that the picture quality has improved quite noticeably: smoother and more...- arnett

Joni Mitchell – ‘court and spark’
I just picked up this classic 1974 recording on CD today and am still shaking my head over how good it sounds. Who needs SACD when redbook can be THIS good. I bought the recently remastered HDCD version (although my CDP cannot decode HDCD). Court and spark is one of the best sounding redbook... -
has anyone tried the passive Taddeo Digital Antidote II?
http://www.taddeo-loudspeaker.com/ the Taddeo Digital Antidote II is suppose to make digital sound more like analog by correcting the phase errors inherent in the redbook standard. apparently, vocals become smoother and fatigue is reduced using the Digital Antidote II. i guess it's a poor...- arnett

Initial impressions of the SinglePower MPX3 tube amp
I received my SinglePower MPX3 today. Normally, I wouldn’t even think of making comments on an amp until it was fully broken in. But this is the first headphone amp I’ve owned that sounds great right out of the box. This thing sounds so kick-ass that I feel I can’t help but make a few...- arnett

NOS tubes: nothing but hype? (longish)
NOS tubes = New Old Stock. Old tubes that have never been used and made in the ‘golden age’ of tube manufacture. Modern production tubes = new tubes usually made in Russia, China, or the former Yugoslavia. Issue: do NOS tubes deserve all the hype they get? Based on the glowing...- arnett

Review of the *db systems* DB-9 headphone amp
In case you’ve never heard of this amp, audio advisor is selling it for $235. It is featured in their catalog but not yet shown on their website (so you’ll have to call them for more info). Apparently, AA claims that the db systems amp is the best sounding amp they’ve sold in several years...- arnett

MG Head OTL owners: what’s the sonic diff between *headphone* and *OTL* jacks?
I've searched on this topic and can't come up with a definitive answer. It seems like the majority of people like the headphone jack in the ‘trans’ position, and a minority the OTL jack. I’ve heard some people call the sound out of the OTL jack ‘unnatural’ and ‘unbalanced.’ Others have said...- arnett

It’s official: the Grado RA-1 can’t power the HD580s after all!
Just got my Grado RA-1 back from Grado yesterday (it took them a month!). I sent it off of repair when I heard significant distortion through it using my HD580s. Grado’s invoice said they could find nothing wrong with the unit. They shipped the same one back to me. Hooking it up to my...- arnett

Who was your local horror movie host?
http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/3257/ Some of the younger guys are saying, “what the hell is a horror movie host?” Back before the days of infomercials, local stations had to fill up airtime with something. Usually, it was Brady Bunch reruns and the like. But most markets had a...- arnett

aimee mann -- 'lost in space'
Aimee Mann’s lost in space comes out on August 27. I know it’s weird talking about an album that’s not out yet, but I’ve just heard a promotional copy of lost in space. But you can hear streaming digital of all the songs in their entirety (albeit mono) at her web site, www.aimeemann.com ... -
Grado RA-1 + HD580 = Distortion Box!
Well, I either have a bum unit or the RA-1 *can’t* drive the HD580s after all. Just got my new RA-1, plugged it into my CDP via my outlaw IC’s and . . . whoa! . . . it’s distorted as hell. The sound is okay until about the 9 o’clock position. Then only the left side becomes distorted. I...- arnett

'hangin' wit Tyll' part IV: detroit rock city
Just got back from the headroom world tour Detroit. Unfortunately, I got lost and was an hour late. So I only had an hour’s worth of listening to do. That’s too bad because I easily could have spent four + hours in there. So I must say that my impressions are the VERY initial kind. I would...- arnett

micheal hedges--aerial boundaries
for those of you who don't know this artist, micheal hedges is technically in the 'new age' category. i know, i know . . . i don't like new age either. but aerial boundaries is probably the most incredible guitar performance i've ever heard. it is simply unbelievable that most of these songs... -
the switch from a home system to a portable one
i'm sudying abroad next term and need something portable to use while in europe. i'm thinking of going for the ety ER4-P and a decent panasonic portable CDP. my current set-up is the senn 580 and creek headphone amp (which are, of course, too big to take with me). my question is how does the...- arnett
