Why are so many recommended headphones so expensive in the UK?
Hi, I'm currently looking for a pair of headphones to replace my broken Sony ZX700s. However, many of the more famously recommended headphones seem to be far more expensive here than in the USA. Below are some comparisons of the headphones most recommended around here, all prices from Amazon...- BenAdamson

Sony ZX700s died, looking for a decent replacement
Hi, I'm looking for something to replace my broken Sony ZX700 headphones. After a year or two of very light use, the sound in the right ear suddenly went completely. On taking them apart to try to repair them, I found that the internal wire is incredibly thin, like an IEM. No wonder it broke...- BenAdamson

Beautiful Crystal cMoy Freeform Headphone Amp
Link HERE What a beautiful amp, this guy meticulously constructed an awesome freeform circuit, and cast it in clear resin, which he polished. Absolutely spectacular! This has inspired me to do something similar for my first DIY project - I'll have to research his methods!- BenAdamson

Best ~£150 setup including speakers, DAC & amp?
Hi, I'd like to put together a speaker system for my laptop (Thinkpad Edge E520 with Conexant 20671 audio). Ideally, I'd like to spend around £150, but I am able to slightly add to this if it would result in a significant quality jump. My budget includes amp, speakers and a DAC. I've...- BenAdamson

Best 2.0 speakers for under £200?
Hi, I'm looking for the best 2.0 speakers on the market on a small budget. This budget includes amplification, so it looks like I might have to use active speakers. I listen to genres that require excellent mids and highs- alt rock and electronic music, however I really enjoy a decent punchy...- BenAdamson

Does the source really matter if I use an external DAC?
Hi, I was wondering if the source (My laptop using foobar2000 with flac files) would matter at all if I use an external USB DAC such as the Fiio E7. I will be using it with my Sony ZX700 headphones. Using the basic headphone plug in my laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E520) the audio is pretty...- BenAdamson

CD format to be abandoned by major labels by the end of 2012!
Source - http://www.side-line.com/news_comments.php?id=46980_0_2_0_C What does this mean for lossless format music? Most of the music I listen to is alt rock etc, and not many of the labels supporting those bands sell their music online in a lossless format. I don't want to spend a ton of...- BenAdamson

Comply T-400 Review
Firstly, I must thank Nate from Comply for sending me a free mixed size sample of the T-400 tips. It's great to see companies really involved with the Head-Fi community! I recieved them about a week ago and have been testing them out since then. Equipment used for testing: Sansa Clip+...- BenAdamson

Comply T-400 - is it worth it?
Hey Head-Fi, I was wondering if it would be worth me dropping £15 on a 3-pack of T-400 buds. I've heard that they would help with comfort and seal, though do they have a big effect? At the moment I am using the medium size stock biflange tips on my RE-ZERO IEMs, which are pretty good but after...- BenAdamson

Cheap Laptop sound upgrade?
Hey, I was wondering how it would be best to upgrade my laptop's audio. I can hear a little static while my headphones are plugged into the headphone jack. I hear that there are USB devices called DACs that bypass all of that. Would a USB DAC mean that the sound is unaffected by anything else? I...- BenAdamson

£50-£100 - What is the best DAP for the money?
Hi, I am looking into buying a new portable source. I currently have the Sansa Clip+, though the jack is starting to wear out so I think it's time for an upgrade. Laptop audio vs. Sansa Clip+
Hey, I am planning on buying some Sony MDR ZX700s, and wondered: is there much of a difference between the sound quality of my laptop (lenovo thinkpad E520) and my sansa clip+. I am using Foobar with FLAC files (with the same FLAC files loaded onto my Clip+'s microSD). Is this difference...- BenAdamson

Difference between Microsoft Windows (Vista) volume control and FB2K's volume control
Hey, I was wondering if there was any noticeable difference in SQ between the volume control in F2K vs. the default Vista one. I am using a pretty mediocre PC setup with basic Altec Lansing speakers (model 221, they are pretty old and not great). Is there any audible difference on a better setup?- BenAdamson

Why iPod LODs?
Hey guys, I was wondering why LODs are used for non-modded iPods. The iPod apparently still passes the audio through its DAC etc, simply ignoring the volume setting and outputting the max volume. This effectively means that the LOD does not actually bypass any chips. Either I've been...- BenAdamson

FLAC Tester Program Needed!
Hey, I would like to test that my FLAC music collection obtained from various sources is actually all lossless FLAC files, converted directly from WAVs. Do you know of the best program to confirm that none of my files are 'fake lossless' - that is, converted from lossy mp3s etc. Cheers!- BenAdamson

PA2V2 & Sennheiser CX500??
Hi, is it worth getting an amp such as the PA2V2 for my Sansa clip+ and Sennheiser CX500 earphones? I'm on a very tight budget, but something in the price range of the PA2V2 and under would probably be good. I've heard some good reviews of the PA2V2, what do you think? Would it actually make...- BenAdamson
