New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out
Quote: I had the same problem two months ago. The plugging in and out would fix the problem until I moved my head too much again. I'm guessing it was a faulty plug. Sent my pair back for a refund in the end.- staticfi

Need help - $400, open cans for acoustic/strings/classical/female vocals
Acoustic instruments sound wonderful with the HE-400. The classical musician in my house likes them for classical music. She would steal them from me if I let her.- staticfi

AKG K240 Studio VS Koss DJ100?
Vocals are pretty even between the two headphones to me. I actually think the DJ100 would work better for electronic music. The bass might be a little more controlled with a little less or the same quantity on the DJ100. The K240 makes electric guitars sound wonderful so I'd pick it for...- staticfi

AKG K240 Studio VS Koss DJ100?
The K240 Studio is the better headphone by far. Bass and sub-bass is a toss up, but the K240 does almost everything else better. Way more detail than the DJ100 to me. The soundstage on the K240 blows the DJ100 with stock pads out of the water. I actually think most headphones are better...- staticfi

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out
I'm having an annoying issue with my HE-400. The 3.5mm plug on the cable can't keep a proper connection to my laptop or E17. Usually the left driver goes out with very little or no movement of the cable. Unplugging and plugging back in the cable only helps the problem temporally. This doesn't...- staticfi

Shootout: Shure SRH840 vs M-Audio Q-40 vs Ultrasone HFI-580 vs AKG K240S
Nice shootout! The K240 Studio gets the most use in my house too. It would be the perfect headphone for me if the bass was better controlled.- staticfi

**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**
Quote: Wow is a good word for it. I sat down for an hour session yesterday and it turned into a five hour session! LIstening to certain songs turned into listening to complete albums. I'm extremely impressed by what I've heard so far. E17 here with stock pads. Maybe I'll try out...- staticfi

Best "mastered" albums of the decade?
Quote: You could try the double Y cable trick for mono records. You need a Y cable with two female to one male plug, and the other one with a single female to two male plugs. I always use this setup when listening to mono records. -
So far, disappointed with AKG Q701.
Music + headphones = fun! I never want to hear the Q701 thanks to this thread. Money saved!- staticfi

Headphone Days
Does anyone have days when certain headphones sound better than you remember them ever sounding? Yesterday was a Grado SR80 day for me. The treble didn't seem as hot as it usually is on the Grado, and everything just seemed lively and perfect. I wanted to give my ears a break from...- staticfi

About to order the HiFiMan HE-400. Any better headphones around the same price or a little more?
The HE-400 is open. Open headphones are not enjoyable for anyone outside in public. They leak tons of sound in and out. You should look for some portable closed headphones.- staticfi

AKG K601 & K612 Pro Owners... UNITE!!
I've only tried the K601 on the E17 and on my receiver with an ipod usb port. It always sounds smooth and slightly warm to me, never fatiguing- staticfi

The KRK KNS-8400: you can have it all.
I'll add the Brainwavz HM5, and AKG K271 to the mix. The HM5 has a nice full sound with good clarity and detail. The K271 is slightly brighter sounding than the HM5, but it rarely fatigues me. The HM5 and 8400 have more sub-bass. I think the 8400 and K271 are more comfortable to wear than...- staticfi

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out
Okay, velour pads were ordered last night so it is time to pull the trigger on the headphones. Can't wait to see if the hype in this thread is justified. I'll report back after a week or two of listening to them.- staticfi

Jazz...
Quote: Love it too! Mingus is probably my favorite jazz composer. He was a perfect mix of traditional, experimental, and playfulness. I'm listening to Complete Communion by Don Cherry right now. Some people might think it is out there, but I think it flows nicely with nothing too... -
The Indie Music Appreciation Thread
Quote: Yep, No Pocky for Kitty by Superchunk is one of my favorite indie rock albums. I saw them live in the early 90's Indie rock from the 80's - 90's is one of my favorite music periods. Right up there with jazz from the 50's - 60's actually. Someone mentioned The...
