Head-fi Austin - January 23 2016
Thanks, Chris, for another fantastic meet! And you too, Dan, for that great venue. And thanks to everyone else who brought awesome gear, or who just joined in to partake in our minor insanity. (You know you want some 6' speakers, Tom) Unlike jodgey and gopanthersgo, I unfortunely found that I'm...- radiofrog

Philips Golden Ears challenge
Thanks for posting this, Moolok. I'll try it when I get home with my DT880s. It'll be good to see if I actually have ears of stone as I suspect.- radiofrog

Austin TX meet impressions
Welcome to the (quite sizable) club. Thanks, Chris, for a well organized and very enjoyable meet! I wish there had been a better turnout, but there was a lot of great equipment and discussion, regardless. -

Head-fi Austin - January 18 2014
I should be able to make it. All I'll have is the Audio Technica M50 and Beyer DT880 Pro 250, both of which I think Bill already has covered. I suppose it won't hurt to have duplicates.- radiofrog

"Please Stop 'Burning In' Your Earphones"
You're in the Sound Science forum, rommy. From Wiki (bold is mine): "The scientific method is a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge. To be termed scientific, a method of inquiry must be based on...- radiofrog

Gear sounds worse after "burning in"?
xnor, thank you for taking the time to type out all the thoughts in my head. I'll read someone's post and start to formulate a response internally, then I find you've already gone ahead and stated it better than I would have done. Quote: I might not be able to tell the difference...- radiofrog

Different sized flac tracks
Good analogy. You can compare the 2 FLACs to 2 TIF files. Say you have a 300 dpi image (akin to original audio recording), then save it as a TIF (i.e. - a FLAC). You can also take that original 300 dpi image and increase its resolution to 600 dpi (you haven't actually added any...- radiofrog

Sorry I missed this one... looks like it was fun. I should be there for Austin, though. Nick, are you still trying to kill people with that salsa?- radiofrog

Dilemma: Should I not believe any reviewers who talk about cables or just ignore that section of their review?
@duncan1: The reason I was drawn to this sub-forum over all the others here is because it touted the application of science to this hobby. I still don't comprehend those that seem "scared" of science, to the point of reflexively refuting scientific results whenever it conflicts with their...- radiofrog

Can a 320 kbps mp3 file be "bad?"
Also, it's possible to convert a 64 or 128 kbps file to 320. So a non-legitimate source could even be that.- radiofrog

Jitter Correlation to Audibility
I'm certainly no expert or anything, but when I see the audio "authority" quoted is involved with a company selling a USB filter for $200, I question motives immediately. But maybe I'm just paranoid.- radiofrog

Dallas June 9 Impressions thread
Big thanks to everyone at the meet! It was my first, but definitely not my last. Everyone was very kind, helpful, informative, and generous. Honestly, I was kind of overwhelmed by all the equipment. I tried to focus on what I was looking for, in my price range, but someone kept...- radiofrog

Antiscience: how to make lots of money... and get people killed
(Pardon my break into the current discussion) Nice post, elsdude. And I agree, our emotions seem to be the crux of the problem with any of these devices. You can be an extremely logical person, science-minded even, but toss in a bit of emotional content and all that logic can...- radiofrog

Comparison of 5 popular cans in the $250-350 range - K701, HD650, DT990/600ohm, SR325is, D2000 - UPDATED!!!!
Thanks for this write-up, Dubstep Girl. It's helped me focus on which cans I want to audition. For an audiophile noob like me, it's helpful to find an article on headphone impressions written in "English." It makes it easier to translate the other reviews I've been reading.- radiofrog

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum
Okay, I'm trying to wait until after the Head-Fi Meet next month before making a purchase, but I keep seeing deals on some of the models I'm interested in, and it's so hard to keep myself from just throwing stupid money around. Someone please slap some sense into me and tell me to just wait.- radiofrog

Thanks KG Jag and cel4145! From what I've been reading here, those two were sounding like my best bets. Hopefully I'll be able to check out all four models at the head-fi meet next month. Would the Fiio E11 suffice for portability with my phone? If I get another amp at home, I...- radiofrog
