Alice Cooper finally in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Now how about Rush?
I concur as well. Their song writing style and prose is particularly endearing to me.- KnightK

Review: Yulong D100 DAC/amp - reference quality with a reasonable price
Quote: I don't seem to have this problem at all. I tested my D100 (without Darkvoice 337) through IEMs and full-size on both the Low and High jacks. No sound leakage at all on 0 volume. Maybe yours is defective?- KnightK

I have $328,700 to spend on some new speakers, can you help me out?
^ That's quite an impressive list in that link, jjinh. For example: The Ultimate by Transmission Audio ($2 million) description says "31,000 Watt needed to turn it on."- KnightK

looking for melodic orchestral (classical) music
Hmm... I think the area we seem to be headed is film soundtracks. In this, I strongly recommend the Lord of the Rings soundtracks, esp. The Return of the King. It has extremely memorable melodies and I'm sure you can connect with many of them. -
FLAC vs. WAV
The extra metadata you can store in FLAC is extremely useful. If you have a larger music collection, then it becomes easier to search for certain 'subcategories'. For example, you can search by orchestra, conductor, soloist, year, genre, etc. With WAV, you're limited in your ability to expand...- KnightK

FLAC vs. WAV
Spot on. FLAC just compresses the data, but it's still all there. So, as long as the decoding is proper, they'll sound the same.- KnightK

NuForce uDac-2 or Musiland Monitor 02 or Audinst HUD-MX1?
The Musiland Monitor is great if you are, or plan to, pick up an external amp to complement them. From the phones you listed, only the 650s would improve greatly from amping. As an all-in-one unit, the uDAC-2 is better. So it all depends: amp to go with or no amp yet?- KnightK

Piracy? A thoughtful inquiry, at least I'd say so...
Quote: I would say a guilt-free feeling and self-respect are the most important reasons. I don't really do it to support most of the artists, but for my satisfaction. (Matter of fact, some of my favorite artists have been dead for hundreds of years ).- KnightK

Review: Yulong D100 DAC/amp - reference quality with a reasonable price
Nice review, project86. I'm really interested in the D100, so I ordered one from wsz0304 on Ebay. Anyone know how long it takes to ship from China with expedited flat rate? (I'm very psyched and can't wait to try 'em out, especially the DAC section :)- KnightK

Modern composer recommendations?
Hans Zimmer is probably best known for his Gladiator soundtrack and a slew of others such as Pirates of the Caribbean. John Williams' Jurassic Park OST is amazing as well. Both Gladiator (Zimmer) and Jurassic Park (Williams) are mastered well and are pleasing to listen to. They are my... -
<New Title> Would differences in headphones be identifiable in DBT testing?
I've DBT'ed the 80i's and the 225s. The 80is sounded very muffled and less detailed, compared to the clarity of the latter. Also, I think the 225 was a bit more balanced in its signature. Not sure about 125 vs 225, though. uote:- KnightK

What do you guys listen to?
A lot of classical (since I play violin), classic rock, and soundtracks (game, movie, musical, etc). I also listen to sprinklings of everything else such as jazz, popular, etc.- KnightK

New rule suggestion for the For Sale section

A few questions about Essence STX, Forte and CALs
Quote: Thanks for clarifying the EFX part; I didn't know that. It's true that everyone needs something different. But, if you only need good sound quality (no mic input, sound effects, etc.), external seems the way to go.- KnightK

Any Civ IV fans out there?
Quote: That's some nice playing. I don't think I'm quite that good . But, when I play with friends, we get a little sidetracked sometimes , so turns end up taking longer. Either way, though, it's really good fun and a nice social gathering. It's a fun way to find out other people's...- KnightK

A few questions about Essence STX, Forte and CALs
I think Creative discontinued EAX in favor of EFX: http://connect.creativelabs.com/developer/Wiki/Introduction%20to%20EFX.aspx Doesn't matter to me though because I was never a fan of those gimmicky effects. In my experience with soundcards, I've had very good results with HT Omega...- KnightK

Any Civ IV fans out there?
Awesome game. The only problem with it is that games get very intense and overly long. I remember some games I played with friends that took days to finish (with breaks, of course). But, that just shows the addictiveness of the game. I was so glad they implemented simultaneous turns in the...- KnightK
