So I want to get into classical...

I've recently started getting into classical as well. I'm actually not a huge Beethoven fan so far. Here's my suggestions for interesting music: Mozart - 38th and 39th Symphonies Moussourgsky - Pictures at an exhibition Holst - The Planets Rimsky-Korsakov - Scheherazade Mendelssohn - A...

    AudioValve English

I thought the calories thing and "I am ready to put my hand in the fire of their tubes" were pretty funny. And "the divine surprise". A few years ago the now-Prime Minister of Australia spoke at the university I attend. He told us a story from back in the day when he was a Chinese translater...

Hissing with USB DACs on Windows Vista 64?

Yes good idea try WASAPI, that's what I use. Just make sure your buffer length is set between 500-700 in Preferences\Output (high buffer lengths cause problems).

How to get decent sound out of a creative audigy 2 ZS?

Don't give up Music from the PC can sound great! The Audigy 2 ZS just isn't very good for music. Replacing the op-amps is quite tricky if you haven't done this sort of thing before and won't make the Audigy 2 sound much better (mine didn't at least). There is also a high risk of destroying...

Hissing with USB DACs on Windows Vista 64?

I'm using Vista 64 and no problem here. Are you using USB? You could try using a different port if you haven't already given that a shot. I can hear intermittent hissing/interference noises through my soundcard if I put the volume right up but no problems at all with my USB DAC.

    HD 555 on A Audigy 2 ZS

I've owned the Audigy 2 ZS and have the HD555 and used the combo for a while. It will work but it's not ideal, the HD555s can go further. But try it out first before buying anything! That way if you decide you want to upgrade your source you will have a better idea about what you want from it.

I ordered a C-2C this morning I'm going to recable my D2000s - is the output socket on the C-2C 1/4"? Cheers

    Corda Swing or C2-C?

...given the impending price jump. At least that was my excuse Now I just need an excuse for a DAC upgrade... perhaps to "unleash the C-2C's full potential" when I get it? **Edit** Should add that the sale is an introductary promotion thing, not an end of life thing or anything like that.

Solid State amps where opamp rolling is supported

Are there any amps out there that explode if you swap the opamps? I was under the impression that at worst it's going to sound worse with a bad opamp. AFAIK they're all built to spec so provided you're using hte same type of opamp it should work, or at least do no damage. And there's heaps on...

need amp to drive Denon D5000's? ($300-$400 range)

I was looking at DIY amps yesterday, mostly the M^3 and CKKIII. Anyone compared these to C-2C, KICAS, other amps mentioned in this thread, with D2000/5000?

need amp to drive Denon D5000's? ($300-$400 range)

"EDIT: One thing I did want to mention, I am using 1/2 Markl Modded Denon D7000. Bass is quite controlled compared with stock and especially compared with d5000 and I assume d2000. I think the Caliente might be a bit much bass for an unmodded Denon with certain mixes. YMMV. I dont think you...

need amp to drive Denon D5000's? ($300-$400 range)

...need the DAC. You're paying for the DAC in these as well as the amp. Anyway this is just what Ive found from a bit of reading Cheers *EDIT* I should add that the comments I've read and highlighted above were all made specifically regarding use with the upper end Denons...

    Headphone card, music and gaming?

I don't think there's any compelling performance reason to use a sound card, XRAM included. I've seen some benchmarks show you get something like 1-2% FPS increase in some games, but you'd do a lot better by overclocking your CPU and GPU slightly. And I doubt you'd even get 1% if your CPU is fast.

    ASIO.. WASAPI.. confused

Hmm. Do you have any other DSP added in foobar? If you go to the properties/advanced tab for your USB device check it is set correctly. I'm not sure if this is bypassed by WASAPI or not but worth a shot I guess. I can't think of anything else, sorry. ==Edit== Oh actually, do you have SP1...

    ASIO.. WASAPI.. confused

I know you said you played with the buffer... but did you try lowering it? This happens to me if the buffer is too high. Try 500ms or so. I ask because I didn't even think of lowering the buffer until I did some googling

    Fubar II DAC Impressions

The D2 is an amp+dac right? You'd probably want to compare it to the Fubar III, which also an amp+dac unit. The Fubar II is just a straight dac, you need an external amp to go with it. With the Fubar III it appears you have the option to bypass the amp and just use it as a DAC, so you can...

Suggestions for a desktop headphone amp/DAC for computer setup

I've got the Fubar II + Cute Beyond amp. It's a nice little setup and very well made. It's also somewhat upgradeable, which is nice. Sadly I can't compare it to the compass or other suggestions here because I haven't heard them.
