From my experience the 650 is a huge upgrade over the 225. Quite frankly, at least in my system the 225 is not even in the same ballpark as the 650. The 650 is more resolving, fuller, cleaner sounding, better balanced, smoother highs, more bass, & even has more punch & impact than the 225 hands...

I'll also chime in that the 650 is very sensitive to source, amp, & cables. In fact the cable alone can make a dramatic difference with more upscale equiptment. I have both a Headphile BlackSilver, & BlackGold cable... both sound very different with the 650 in my system. Quote...

In my experience paired with an Aria these cans exagerated the high frequency range to great extent. I couldn not stand to wear them for more than a few minutes. The low end sounded just as wrong. They are cool looking though.
