    currently the best pc speakers?

An alternative to consider is getting a cheap t-class amp and some passive hifi speakers.   I use a Topping TP20 Mk2 amp (fed from a Fiio E10 connected to my PC) and I use it drive a pair of Mission bookshelf speakers. Sounds miles better than any 2.1 speakers I've heard.   The advantages...

    Grado e Series

When I bought the 225e, I had a 225i at the time, so was able to compare them directly. I heard a little more mid-bass presence, giving a fuller, more authoritative sound, and a mild softening of the high-end. No significant difference in resolution or clarity, from what I could tell, just a...

    Grado e Series

I'm a SR60e owner, and also had a 225e a while back. I can confirm that both these models have two of the holes opened (the felt that used to cover all the holes now stops short of the holes either side of where the wires are soldered to the driver.)   My guess is this is the case for all...

The drivers were only painted red for a limited time, as far as I know, and the more recently manufactured drivers don't have the paint. If it says SR60e on the plastic 'buttons' in the center of the rear of each earcup then it's a genuine SR60e.

    Grado e Series

Sounds like you have a hybrid 225i / 225e; these were sold for a while before the 'e' series was officially released.     One other thing to check - hold one of the earcups up to the light, looking through the wire mesh at the back. You should see a ring of circular holes surrounding the...

Another vote for In A Silent Way! CD2 of Bitches Brew sounds awesome as well (I'm still getting into CD1 ...)

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

I believe the DT770 use the same basic driver as the DT880, but the damping (and obviously the housing!) is different. I tried a DT770 for a short while, but didn't like it. Compared with the DT880 it sounded bassier and much more 'v' shaped: the mid-range seem thinner and more distant.  ...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

There was a mod for this floating around a few years ago.   http://www.head-fi.org/t/424842/beyerdynamic-dt880-closed-back   I haven't tried it myself ...

I've heard the 225e and, just recently, picked up a 60e.   In both cases the main change to my ears is a fuller bass response and a slightly softened treble. In both models the drivers have two holes pre-vented, which I guess accounts for most of the changes to the sound signature.  (The...

I saw that the other day, it sounds pretty cool! The source mp3 was encoded at 128kbps though, so you have to bear that in mind. I think the equivalent taken from a 320kbps (or a VBR V0) would be virtually inaudible ...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

The overwhelming majority is in vbr v0 mp3 that I encoded myself from CDs using lame. Some is bought from online stores like bleep or boomkat, who supply as 320kbps mp3.

Do you mean how it's encoded or the type of music?

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

I've used my HD600 (and now my HD650) with a clip loads of times and think they sound great. They are more than loud enough for me at 3/4 volume (with the EU volume limiter turned off). I was shocked when I first tried it, as I expected it to sound significantly worse than through my amp (at...

Grado SRi red drivers. Are they SRe drivers?

What I meant was they both have the same type of cable, but the 225e has the smaller 1/8" plug. So what I should have said was your 225e has a 225i cable+plug

    Grado SR80e vs. CAL original

I found the original CAL to be comfortable, with a fairly light clamping pressure. Comfort is subjective, of course, but I am pretty sensitive to clamping.   One other thing to note is that the earpads are slightly smaller than most full size over-ear heaphones, so if you have large ears they...
