The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

What I've learned is that with most tracks from this genre (rock, pop, 80s synthpop, gospel, classical) the DT880s are more than worthy in the presence of the Alpha Dog if not equal. It's just when I play music like DnB, hip-hop, EDM, dubstep, reggae, and anything that needs a serious kick in the bass department the DT880 becomes noticeably sluggish by comparison. The DT880 still has great extension and texture it just lacks impact and control that planars in general deliver.

i read swspiers review of he-400i and saw your comment on it. Are you still looking for he-400i?
i'm alright with selling mine and I bear the international shipping cost (since i'm in asia), if you're interested. Though tbh, razordogaudio has good open-box deals every time i open their website so, almost every week? lol.

The clamp force is a beotch though. and i'm not saying that just so i can curse, it really is.

Can you, please suggest/advice a comparable (to DT880) closed headphones?
DT880 are excellent - but sometimes closed version is needed...

Requirements: price level, sound quality, design, weight,... = +/- the same as DT800.

what's the price level you're talking about?

$500 or the current street level $250-$350?

there's really none at $200-$300 that is comparable to dt880 really, for closed headphones.

I'm with this guy, i want an headphone that is neutral and doesn't leak sound in (or out), i absolutely hate background noises.
The Dt770 are closed, but not as neutral.
is there a way to make the 880 closed? some MOD or something?

You should consider Soundmagic Hp100/150.
Not as capable as DT880s but it's a pretty neutral closed back headphone, specially when compared with something like DT770

Best Luck!

If you are ready for some soldiering, Bravo V3 with IRL510 + input/output Caps Mods should be enought !

After plenty of nice amps should do it all depends of your taste SolidState, Hybrid, Tube, and finally your budget.

I feel like covering the grill with tape is just way to much effort to ghetto rig the DT880 to being closed. Then you lose everything that makes it the DT880. I'd just look for closed headphones if I needed no sound leak.:)
