Why aren't there any 60mm drivers?

There has to be a reason for why all headphones seem to max out at 50mm drivers.

Why does no one use Ultraleather?

The more I spend with full size headphones and the more I read about pads makes me wonder. With heaphones the pad material ends up being far more important than normally thought of. Folks will sell off headphones with pads they don't like. You even have a small small community which will trade...

Find an amp for lcd3 and hd800

Hi everyone, I want to find an amp for both hd800 and lcd3. Now I am interested in GS-X, wa22, DNA stratus. GS-X is really good but I think I should wait a long time to buy a new one. Some people say that wa22 is not so suitable for lcd3, so really do not know which to choose..... by the way...

Why do top end headphones go beyond 20 khz if there is no sound there?

The Sennheiser HD800, Grado PS1000e, Beyerdynamic T1, and Hifiman HE560 all play up to 50 khz. Why design headphones to reproduce frequency ranges beyond 20khz if there is nothing there?

Dual listening: Amp with two headphone outputs

So my wife has really started to get into listening to my rig lately. Are there any good amps that have dual headphone inputs so we can listen together? I was literally getting ready to purchase the new oppo ha-1 last night and then she stated she wanted to get a set of cans. So I figured if the...

    HD800 amping (800 € budget)

Hi everyone! I'd like to upgrade my amplifier for my HD800s (I also use Amperiors sometimes), I currently own an Objective 2. I'd like to buy one that synergizes best with HD800s, without destroying soundstage, detail and transparency, smoothing them a little. What do you think would be better...

Electrostatics and having a lot of electricity around your head.

I once have considered buying a Stax system which lost to the HD650 and a Graham Slee amp. The major reason why was simply because I liked the latter's sound better and because I was scared of the way electrostatics work. I plan on getting a Stax system now that I sold my HD800, Vioelectric, and...

    scared by Sennheiser HD650

Did it happened to you to be scared by the clear separation of the sounds of HD650 ? I am listenining to Iron Maiden Sventh Son of a Seventh Son and some instruments in the melody came forward so clear (drums , cymbals etc) that sometimes i jumped from my chair while working, and looked around...

    LA-7000 appreciation

Hell, the Mad Dogs have one, why can't we? I've noticed the modded Denons don't get enough love around here on Head-Fi so lets change that. Reply if you love your modded AH-D series headphones, regardless of models! Regardless of how many headphones I listen to, I just can't stay away from the...

Mini reviews of headphones i auditioned

Hello i just visited a local audio shop, auditioning headphones (for free, yes free). and this are my quick reviews of headphones i tried. Sennheiser HD800: No way you come into a headphone store and not looking at the Sennheiser HD800, its simply the 'best'. Plugged into a Oppo...

    Question About Sennheiser HD800

I am considering buying HD800's but I am definitely having trouble on deciding on what to drive them with. I have looked at several but have no idea which would be the best for the price or which would get the best sound out of the 800's. I have read that a tube amp is pretty much the best way...

How to make the HD600 as fast as a HD800 or make the HD800 as intimate, organic and fullbodied as a HD600 ?

How to make the HD600 as fast as a HD800 or to make the HD800 as intimate, organic and fullbodied as a HD600 ?   Is it possible? Even with battery powered SS amps (RWA) ?   I really like the small realistic intimate jazzclub soundstage and fullbodied presentation of the HD600

Sample object ive mesurment of headphones headstage

Introduction: I once asked for a quantitative description of heaphones headstage width, but kind of did not get the anwser. So after doing some investment (those HD800 don't come cheap!), I found the anwser on my own (those are my subjective values, so you will not feel that wasy, and I...

    The Irish Still Make Headphones?

I got my HD600s in the mail today and to my surprise the box says "Made in Ireland." I thought they were made in China only except for the HD800 and the like. Am I lucky or are many HD600s made in Ireland?

How come if a Headphone has deep and strong bass is not considered a 'audiofile headphone '

for me is a non sense , is like having a dolby 5.1 surround home theather without the subwoofer , so i dont understand why a headphone like hd800 is considered an audiofile when  something is missing in  the sound ( 'sub bass' in this case) . If the bass is missing is OK a great phone but if the...

Paradox Slants as EndGame HP over everything else

The biggest thing is that there is a starving student version for $550 plus around $15 shipping. For the price, it's an amazing deal. After my research I would get it over HifiMan's offerings, Audeze's offerings, Fostex's TH900, and Sennheiser's HD800, due to the sheer fact that for half the...

HD800 being "picky" with amps myth

I always found this strange, it seems like around the time the HD800 came out, someone said that it was difficult to drive and needed a good "partner" in terms of an amp. Ever since then, every post on head-fi regarding the hd800 seems to be about how "picky" the hd800 is and how you need to...

    Looking for a **LOUD** DAC/AMP for HD800s

Hi! I'm a new and proud owner of a pair of HD800s and would appreciate a recommendation for some amps with gobs of power. I've got a hearing disability of about 50dB across the spectrum, and the current audio chain I'm running on is a little lacking in terms of volume for classical recordings...
