Ideas for ideal workout headphones?
Ha, I actually own and use these as my workout headphones right now. They are pretty good, but still not quite as deep an insertion as I would like - it takes some doing even with the flanges to get them to really lock into my ear canal and stay put.- AmanGeorge

Ideas for ideal workout headphones?
Hey- I tend to burn through headphones at a fast pace when I'm working out, so I'm trying to find something that meets the following criteria: Most important: -Inexpensive (<$50) -Deep insertion into the ear canal (Soundmagic E30 was too shallow) -Built to be worn over the ear ...- AmanGeorge

Rethm still around?
Hey- Rethm is still alive and kicking, unfortunately that headphone amp never went into production. I still have the only unit of it sitting on my desk next to my computer, haha. The "Gaanam" name that was attached to that amp is now used as the model designation for Rethm's integrated...- AmanGeorge

SQ Comparison from custom IEMs to full size cans?
First, you should understand that IEMs v. Full-size headphones are totally different listening experiences. Full-size headphones will give you a much better sense of "space", they will probably cast a slightly more honest soundstage, and they are likely to have more visceral bass because they'll...- AmanGeorge

Audeze LCD2, Grado GS1000, Senn 800 AKG702.
I despise the GS1000 and really like the other three headphones you are looking at (maybe because I don't listen quietly?). The treble is really painful and the mids sound sucked-out and weird. I wouldn't bother.- AmanGeorge

CanJam@RMAF 2011 Listening Impressions Thread
Hey guys- Just got home a few hours ago, and thought I'd share some of my brief impressions of a few things that really impressed me. The transparency of the SR-009 - Wow, just wow. The SR-009 fed by the Woo WES is the most transparent headphone system I have ever heard. Absolutely...- AmanGeorge

Audeze LCD3 Initial Impression
Quote: To be fair, I first heard the LCD-2 at RMAF 2009, and it's now RMAF 2011. It has been 2 years since the LCD-2 was first debuted, and almost a year and a half since it was officially released. I don't think of that as an unfair upgrade schedule at all, and, at $1,000 more than the...- AmanGeorge

Product Sneak Peaks, CanJam @ Rocky Mountain Audio Fest (RMAF) - Head-Fi TV, Episode 013
It varies from rig to rig, but most people are set up either with a CD player, computer->DAC, or both. I would definitely bring a demo CD; you can try bringing your iPod if you want, but obviously the rig probably won't sound as good as whatever higher quality source the exhibitor has set up...- AmanGeorge

best soundstage available?
Sounds like you need speakers. The HD800 is about as expansive as it gets short of a K1000 (which may satisfy you).- AmanGeorge

Stax SR Lambda Information
Just to make sure - have you sat down and had a serious listen with the Stax recently? Vintage Lambdas are, IMO, among the best headphones available <$500 and maybe even more. If it were me, I'd definitely keep them around unless you decide the sound signature really doesn't suit you.- AmanGeorge

Closed cans with forward sound and sparkly highs?
I think Audio-Technicas may suit you well. The only one I've spent extensive time with is the W1000 (which is out of your range), but FWIR there is a pretty strong house sound that extends throughout most of the AT family. The W1000 were probably the definition of sparkly highs for me (i.e...- AmanGeorge

just cant beat this setup for the money
I've never heard the HE-4, but I have always believed that a vintage Lambda + SRM-1/MKII (which can usually be had for ~$500-600) represents something close to the pinnacle of value for money in the Head-Fi world.- AmanGeorge

Headphone hating
Quote: This is a recipe for killing your hearing quickly. I highly recommend using noise-cancelling headphones or highly-isolating IEMs with foam tips for flying instead of just turning up the volume.- AmanGeorge

What's your drink? (Cocktails)
I can almost always find something to enjoy. I love beer, particularly stouts (Duck Rabbit Milk Stout is one of my favorites) and some IPAs (many are too bitter for my tastes, but Dogfish Head makes some fantastic ones... the 120 minute IPA is hands down my favorite beer on the planet). ...- AmanGeorge

Open 'phones with strong bass impact?
To give a slightly contrarian option - the Sony MDR-SA5000 has excellent bass for an open headphone. It's not as high in quantity as something like an HD650, but it's significantly snappier. You will feel sharpness and speed of impact really well with an SA5000, but will miss out on some of the...- AmanGeorge
