Looking at the spacing in these great photos under magnification, the current pin spacing is 4 mm and the HD800 spacing is 3 mm. Looks like a no go to me.

I would suggest you look into the Clearaudio Micro Basic. New $350 but they are on AgoN often for $150 - 175. It is an astoundingly good phono pre for the money. Has MM & MC switch. Acoustic Sounds has them new for $275. I believe they are at the end of production, replaced by the Basic for $900.

Oh, yes - AKG K701s are the ones for Jazz.

I love my 701s for Jazz, balanced w/ APS V3 through a RSA B-52. I find it to be a very natural sound.

At the NYC Spring 2008 Meet I heard balanced 650s through both a RSA Apache and SP Supra Balanced. These 2 amps brought the 650s to another level for me. I now listen through a B-52 and won't look back.
