    CanJam SoCal 2015, March 28-29, 2015

Great to hear this news!   Excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by "independent" and "stand-alone"? Will there be no manufacturers, vendors, or exhibitors?

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Hey wasmoh! I finally got to hear the Alphas. I went to the meet in LA mainly just to hear them. Nice, for sure, especially for closed hp. If I buy another closed in the future, they would be at the top of the list. After listening for a while (through a $5,000 dac/amp setup :) I put on my...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I was confused for a minute there, but I gotcha... No, the Darkvoice does not have a balanced out. I agree, that could be a big part of the difference. If anything I think the balanced out of the HDVA is bringing out the strengths of the amp a little more.

First impressions of the HDVA 600 amp fresh out of the box with the HD650s.   I first listened to the setup I'm used to: My Darkvoice 336se tube amp with an unbalanced input from my Matrix Mini-i DAC. HD650s unbalanced (single-ended) with stock cable.   Next, I listened to the HDVA the same...

Have to say, didn't love 'em. A little too much something in the treble for me.   My next phones would probably be Audeze LCD2.

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

You probably know this, but there is a consensus among HD650 fans that they need time to break in and burn in. Some people say it's because the pads wear in a little and it changes the sound for the better. Others say the components are seating and the bass will tighten up and they'll become...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I bought a pair of 650s shortly after buying my 880s. I love the 880s open, airy sound, but it gets a little thin for me, and with some songs the treble makes me wince.   The 650 is thick by comparison. Warm, and thick low-mid, like PDRM360 said. Just never felt like I got enough treble or...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

That's encouraging!! I'm a little worried that what I heard at the meet isn't going to be what I hear when I get them home, for whatever reason. I just ordered a balanced cable too (zy cable cheapie from amazon, $79). Chasing audio nirvana. I guess being human means you need to chase something.

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Speaking of curses...   I bought 650s last April but exchanged them for 600s. The 650s were too dark and "conjested" for me, even with a new tube amp with "bright" tubes, etc.   I really like the 600s, though they aren't perfect.   I went to the head-fi meet in LA last weekend, and just...

The Official 2014 LA Head-Fi Meet Impressions Thread

Does anyone know the name of the software that a lot of the vendors were using to piggyback iTunes on? I can't remember the name for the life of me, and I'm not too up on the high-end options for playback from a computer. I remember the Mr. speakers table was using it, if anyone recalls. Thanks!

Agreed. They were very impressive when I auditioned them. If I wanted closed phones around/under $300 I'd probably buy these.

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Just want to say I like your post. I had a similar experience this weekend at the head-fi meet. I listened to a pair of hd-650s connected balanced to a Sennheiser HDVA-600 amp. Also connected (single-ended, regular 1/4" cable) to the same amp was a pair of 600s. The 600s sounded like I'm used to...

The Official 2014 LA Head-Fi Meet Impressions Thread

I only had 2 1/2 hours to spend at the meet (turned into 3). As a first timer I thought it would be plenty of time. Man was I wrong. My wife is getting tired of hearing me say, "Man I wish I could've spent more time there." I'm realizing how much I missed. I didn't hear any of the member...

Not an exact answer to your question, but since it's Sunday.... I went to the head-fi meet in LA yesterday. I thought a few hours there would be enough, but it wasn't, not even close. I did get over to the Sennheiser table and I have to say I'm a little miffed. I bought a pair of 650s a few...

As of now I plan on attending, and bringing a friend, who is not a head-fi forum member. I will have him fill out an online registration, as will I.

    HD 650 vs DT 880 vs ...

Wow, that IS interesting how similar the curves look -- all the peaks and dips in the same places. Not how I hear it though for some reason. Probably mostly about the lower treble and the less open sound for me. Maybe I needed more time with them.   Really enjoying the 600s so far.

They probably sound the same. The story goes the engineer who designed the Darkvoice left the company and started La Figaro. His 336c supposedly has some upgraded parts and/or signal path. Interestingly, he doesn't make the 336c any more. The darkvoice 336se can still be bought (got mine from...

Oh, no! I'm keeping the HD600s. They're going to be my go-to phones. I should sell the DT880s to alleviate financial guilt, but as of now I think I'm going to keep them.

    HD 650 vs DT 880 vs ...

Because the delicateness and airy breathiness of the 600 Ohm 880 just makes those genres sound exciting, open and  -- I want to say realistic -- but maybe it's hyper-realistic? They don't get shrill to me with those genres like they can with contemporary music. For classical and jazz the...

heya! I thought a lot about what you said a couple weeks ago. You obviously knew exactly where I was coming from and described how to get a "625". I just don't want to have to buy some esoteric cables to find out, but it was tempting. I had to make a decision and the 600s really impressed me...
