Denon AH-D2000 - trying to resolve the upper-mids (and buzz)
I'm not sure about the buzz...now I'm trying it with another pair of headphones and hearing more distortion than before there too. Strange, I didn't really change anything! FYI, I'm running off a PC connected to an MBox2 as my DAC. I also have a Fiio E11, but found that adding it doesn't really...- Virtuoso80

Denon AH-D2000 - trying to resolve the upper-mids (and buzz)
So, as I posted in the 'are they worth it' thread, these Denons are impressing me tremendously with their quality and response. However, upon continued listening, there are some wrinkles that I can't seem to quite iron out. There is something 'off' about the upper-mids on these cans. I...- Virtuoso80

Denon AH-D2000's worth it?
Just got mine today, and I'm already in love! Even without burn in (the bass is a tad muddy) they're fantastic: This is what headphones are supposed to sound like! Returning the Sennheiser HD598's in favor of these was an excellent decision.- Virtuoso80

Denon AH-D2000's worth it?
Yep, I just called them, was quoted $249.99 and got them for $215.00. My convo went almost exactly the same as junkboy's. I live right near the city, so that might effect ease of shipping, don't know if they'd do the same for other areas. I'm so glad I found this deal. If someone from J&R...- Virtuoso80

REVIEW: Fischer Audio FA-011 - OFF THE DEEP END!!
Quote: Hey, I ordered some FA-11's though gd_audiobase's Ebay account a month and a half ago. They never came, and Dimitri took forever getting back to me by E-mail. I finally just got a refund through Ebay customer service. So, to answer your question, no it looks like the same issues.- Virtuoso80

Problems with gd_audiobase
A month ago, I ordered a pair of Fischer Audio FA-011's off of ebay from gd_audiobase, who also has a website many of your will be familiar with. A month later, and it's past the expected arrival date for the headphones, and I've tried e-mailing both the ebay account and the website account, and...- Virtuoso80

Porcupine Tree, anyone?
Yes! Good to see a Porcupine Tree thread here. The more albums I listen to (including Steven Wilson's solo work), the higher they climb up the ladder for me. It used to be a no-contest between them and someone like Pain of Salvation, but now Porcupine Tree is a serious contender at the top of my...- Virtuoso80

Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread
In the spirit of the thread, I do have a compliment for these cans: There is NEVER a harsh moment. I can pump the volume up on a highly compressed rock album, and there's never a frequency that leaps out and makes me cringe. Very 'safe' and relaxing.- Virtuoso80

Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread
Quote: I just got a pair of 598's for Christmas, and I've been talking/complaining about them here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/587144/sennheiser-hd598-for-christmas-not-impressed-yet/ They're quality, and they have grown on me. Very detailed, well built, comfortable, accurate, but...- Virtuoso80

Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread
Quote: I like Grados too, but I don't always think of them as neutral/flat/balanced/accurate. I recommend them for their beautifully tight, natural bass, the fact that the cheaper models are such a bargain, and, most importantly, because they're lots of fun. Even if they don't...- Virtuoso80

Sennheiser HD598 for Christmas...not impressed yet.
Update: The Senns have grown on me a bit. I know there's debate about break-in being psychological or not, and I can't confirm it isn't (did I stop listening to the headphones and start listening to the music?), but the bass feels tighter, and the sound fuller. Given the right rock album they...- Virtuoso80

Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread
Quote: I've had this happen to 3 of my old headphones, which is why I now prefer headphones that come with the 1/4, or I just keep the 1/4 adapter on at all times. What I did for my Grados is to cut the old plug off entirely, strip the wires, and solder a new plug on. It's not at...- Virtuoso80

BitHead or AirHead (or other?)
I was in the market for a new headphone amp, and I was wondering whether or not to keep my MBox2 in the signal line for it. In other words, get a DAC/Amp like BitHead, or keep using the MBox as the DAC and just get an amp, like the AirHead. Which will produce higher-quality results? If...- Virtuoso80

Sennheiser HD598 for Christmas...not impressed yet.
Now I have a new idea: For the a little more than the price of the 598's I can get some Fischer Audio FA-011's and a bithead amp. That a much 'safer' bet than shelling out more for the Denon or the Beyerdynamic, so I may do that instead.- Virtuoso80

Sennheiser HD598 for Christmas...not impressed yet.
Thanks B-Dawk. I'd love to able to splurge on all this stuff of course, and a D2000 with a headroom amp would be a definite buy if I could. Maybe I will just save up a bit and do that, getting the amp first (or building it).- Virtuoso80

Sennheiser HD598 for Christmas...not impressed yet.
Another good piece of info: I think I've identified, far and away, my least favorite aspect of the 598's: The frequency 'bump' around 125-150Hz. I guess that's where the 'warm' sound comes from, and the graph on headroom supports that. I find strong sounds in that region very unappealing on the...- Virtuoso80

Sennheiser HD598 for Christmas...not impressed yet.
Price range is about the same as the 598's: $200. I know there's a bunch of options a bit higher (AKG 701, Dennon D2000, Beyerdynamic) and I don't know if I want to go there, especially since I want to invest in a headphone amp relatively soon. Would the SR-225i's be worth it? The SR-80's...- Virtuoso80

Sennheiser HD598 for Christmas...not impressed yet.
Those are nice tracks, but I think it hits on something regarding my listening habits: I'm a very active listener. I like energy, drama, and lots of changes in my music. I know a lot of people like to use music to space-out and relax, but that's never been for me. There are some ambient...- Virtuoso80

Sennheiser HD598 for Christmas...not impressed yet.
Update after a few days break-in and listening: I can, by no means, say this is a bad headphone. The quality and detail is wonderful. I've noticed plenty of details in my music I never heard with the SR-80's ...but they're just not FUN. The most telling thing is trying out new music...- Virtuoso80

Crossfeed software?
I was preparing to create a DIY crossfeed circuit for my headphone listening, when I suddenly had an, "oh, duh" moment: If I usually listen through my computer anyway, why not emulate the acoustics in software instead of hardware? A quick google search reveled there are indeed options along...- Virtuoso80
