Need helpful suggestions for toslink source to USB input to PC

I need to find a (hopefully) reasonably priced way to take toslink out (at 24/96) to USB input to my Windows 7, 8, and 10 PCs. Once upon a time there were a few options, but I've frankly lost track of what's out there now that's not in danger of being orphaned with incompatible drivers for more...

    The start of something big?

Just saw this in my Facebook news feed. Is this right? Is Steve Earle's new album available for pre-order on iTunes at 24/96? Anyone? The iTunes web site has been of little help. If this really is available, it's well hidden.

    SPDIF to USB interface?

Hi all,   I'm looking for something that OUGHT to be relatively simple to find...but not for me for some reason.   I have an E-MU 0404 that I've used in the past as my SPDIF to USB interface for ripping from analog sources.  However, it seems it's become orphaned.   I need a computer...

Need help finding an inexpensive over-ear closed headphone (it's a gift)

Hi all,   I need some help and I'm having some trouble with this one.   I have a coworker who is looking for some closed headphones to wear while working.  She doesn't want to spend a lot, and they need to be easy enough to drive that an iPhone will suffice as a source/amp.   I recommended...

Has anyone heard anything about the Oppo HA-1 balanced headphone amp/DAC?

I've been trying to find out about this product, which is listed on the Oppo website, but has received very little attention so far.  It's a DAC from a company that's done well re) price/value IMHO, and it's also a BALANCED headphone amp too...

HELP! I'm thinking I need to buy a tube tester

OK...as of right now, I've got a couple of vintage Fisher tube amps (500C and X-202B).  I'm thinking it might not be a bad idea to buy my own tube tester at some point.    I gather I will need something that will test 12AX7's and 7591's for sure, and a few others that are mostly tuner tubes...

Need to convert single ended input to balanced input...how?

Hi all,   I need to convert a single ended source input (RCA) to a balanced input (XLR).  I'd like some sort of one-box solution that would produce a true inverted signal.  I've done some looking around and I'm more confused now than when I started.   Anyone have any simple solutions...

Interesting message from Neil Young re) 2012 and the music industry!

http://www.neilyoung.com/messagepage.html   Discuss:   If true, I'm hoping that it's in Hi-Rez files instead of Blu-Ray or some other physical media.

Observations from a new fan of European soccer

OK...so for years, I thought watching soccer was about as interesting as cutting the grass.   Then my son became involved in travel soccer, we started watching games together, and the bug has bitten.   Some initial observations:   The game is exciting...even though the scoring is a...

Need help re) DSLR for action shots

OK...so I need some help re) a DSLR for action shots. Specifically, sports action shots. I have two kids who do gymnastics/soccer, and our current camera (a jumped up point and shoot Sony that's just below DSLR status) is giving me a bad case of the blahs. Or is that the blurs? I gather...

Looking for list of music DVD's with high quality 2-Channel Audio

OK, not having a lot of luck here. I'm looking for some source of information on the quality of the two-channel audio track on music dvd's. What I've been able to find so far is hit and miss. Hi-rez would be great, but I'd take something lower rez (but not lossy) with good mixing/sonics...

Diana Krall - Live in Ann Arbor (6/26/09)

Well, I just returned from a very pleasant night out with my wife. After a (very) quick dinner out at Outback Steakhouse (in and out in 35 minutes...and the meal was decent too ), it was off to Ann Arbor for an evening of great jazz with Diana Krall. The venue in this case was Hill...

Silverstone EB01 - Reminded (AGAIN) that it's a Surprisingly good USB DAC

OK, so I've had this DAC for a while now. I used it for a while as a work rig source, and then as the DAC for one of my computers (not necessarily the one I use for computer audio). I've often got more DACs than I know what to do with, and this one somehow got lost in the shuffle. Then, about...

REVIEW (in process): av123 X-Head Headphone Amp

Hi all, First, this will evolve over the course of the next few weeks into a full-blown review. However, I wanted to begin as an initial impressions thread, and edit it as time allows. I've been interested in this amp ever since it appeared on the scene. I was always a big fan of Audio...

Dave Matthews Band - Live from Beacon Theatre in NY (on FUSE Network)

I'm watching it right now. Good concert...looks like the band is rounding into shape nicely without Leroi Moore. That said, by GOD, the sonics are AWFUL!! I think that they must either be digital clipping like nothing I've ever heard, or have some sort of modulating device set to 11 to...

The new Wadia 381 - A quick listen or two

I dropped off my Wadia 830 recently for "I" and "P" upgrades - I work 10 minutes from their HQ - and had a chance to give a quick listen to their newest CD deck, the Wadia 381. Shortly after arriving, John Schaffer asked if I had a few minutes to give something a listen. Oh, OK...twist my arm...

    Detroit "Mini" Meet - Impressions

OK...it's late, and I need to hit the rack. I've only now got my PC back up and running after a great day spent at the most opulent "mini" meet that you can possibly imagine. We had a literal embarassment of riches: electrostatic cans (orpheus, HE60, jade) and the new RSA A-10 electrostatic...
