Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

I've been enjoying my stock T20v2 with 840 pads, especially with classical music. I got them as a gift 25 years ago and only recently realized they're better than any of the other headphones I own. I even like them more than the Shure SRH-840.   Can anyone recommend a mod to improve the...

The FiiO X3 2nd gen (ex X3K, X3II) Thread : 192K/24B, CS4398,Native DSD, USB DAC with LO and inline remote

96dB/mW   But I don't know what that means. Does it suggest they would be hard to drive?

Thanks. The T20v2 are surprisingly hard to drive for 50 Ohm headphones. I'm thinking the X3ii might be an affordable all-in-one solution, as a DAP/DAC/amp.

I have the Fostex T20v2 (unmodded but with Shure pads). It's got an impedance of 50 Ohms. Will the X3 ii drive them well? I barely get enough volume out of my Macbook Pro.

    Portapro: First Impressions

I've been a dedicated PX-100 (original version) user for the last 5 years, but the left side started cutting in and out last week. The price has gone up to around $80 now, I guess because Sennheiser stopped making them (big mistake!), having replaced them with the PX-100 II. So I decided to try...

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Nuforce uDAC USB DAC AMP with line out and S/PDIF out

Just got a uDAC today, which I'm using with my trusty PX100 (1st generation). The pairing is excellent. The combination of the PX100's warmth and smoothness with the uDAC's detail and crispness is beautiful. I wasn't sure whether I would hear much of a difference from my MacBook audio jack, but...

    PX100 buzzing problem

My 4 year old PX100s recently started buzzing/rattling in the left ear. Certain notes trigger the buzz, and particularly lower-end notes. The sound seems fine otherwise – the buzz is just on top of the normal sound. I've heard of this problem before, but couldn't find anything on Head-Fi...

    Warm amp for HD580

I just got a pair of HD580's, and I've been using them out of my MacBook, and occasionally out of my Yamaha A/V receiver. I'm finding that in both cases, the 580's are too bright, with not enough bass. I like a warm sound, with a somewhat subdued treble. I would appreciate any amp...

    The Sennheiser HD580 Impressions Thread

Just got my first pair of 580's yesterday. Here are some of my early impressions, straight out of my MacBook with no amp: - They're too bright. I'm having to EQ the treble down. - Instrument separation is ridiculously good. I can hear every single instrument clearly. I'm blown away by...

2.0 system in tiny Hong Kong apartment - Suggestions?

I've had the PSB Alpha B1's for about 6 months now, and I have to say that I'm disappointed with them. I have an older pair of PSB 400's which I love, so I thought I would stick with PSB. I also read a very positive review in Stereophile magazine. But I find them rather thin-sounding, with a...

    PX100 Vs Portapro! VOTE NOW!

Haven't tried the Portapros, but I love my PX100's. Smooth, natural sound, extremely comfortable, and durable. I've been carrying them around in my pocket without their case for 2 years now and they look almost as good as new.

Pls help : A decent sound system with limited budget/space

I am in a similar situation, and I decided to go with a 2nd hand amp + speakers. I got an NAD amp for $300 Canadian, and a pair of Monitor Audio speakers for $250 Canadian. Each sells new for about $400 US ($475 Can). I only had to look around for about 2 weeks to find both. I doubt that a...

    Apple's Black Friday Sale - Shure, PX100

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet. Over at Apple's online store, they're having a Black Friday sale, which includes the full line of Shure IEM's and the Sennheisier PX100. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...olidayMain2006

    harsh treble

I'm very sensitive to treble. I find the treble a bit too strong with my iPod/PX100 combo, so I set the iPod EQ to "treble reducer", and it sounds good. The ideal for me would be in between flat and "treble reducer" - just to take the edge off the treble.

    PX100 vs. E2C

I was in precisely your situation. I had the E2C's, and wasn't completely happy with them. So I got the PX100's. They took some getting used to, as they sound very different from the Shures. But after a while I got very attached to them, and sold my Shures. I found the E2C's sounded somewhat...

    About that PX100 sound change..

I don't know whether mine are the new ones or the old ones, but the package says "03/05" and they have a very smooth, somewhat dark sound. Perfect for my taste - I can't handle too much treble anyway. Whichever ones they are, they're excellent.
