96dB/mW

But I don't know what that means. Does it suggest they would be hard to drive?

It means 1mW of power will give loudness of 96dB, which is not really that hard to drive, but not the most sensitive of headphone out there either (those can reach over 110dB). By spec, X3II should have no problem driving it.

Looks like they just posted a firmware update (v1.4).

Change Log:

Code:
X3 2nd gen FW1.4 (2015-11-17) The following changes and improvements were made to FW1.4 compared to FW1.31beta: 1. Fixed issue where the player may not be able to load the cover art for certain files. 2. Fixed issue where certain DFF files may not be playable. 3. Miscellaneous bug fixes.

I assume this update also includes the scroll wheel fix from the 1.31 beta version as well (for those who didn't install the beta version).

Code:
X3 2nd gen FW1.31beta (2015-10-29) The following changes and improvements were made to FW1.31 compared to FW1.3: Improved the sensitivity and consistency of the scroll wheel response.

Just installed it and it's working just fine!

A new beta for the X5 2nd gen has just been released. It includes the below:

Added library search function: activate by holding Shortcuts button in any category or folder browsing screen; use previous / next buttons to switch between numbers and alphabet).

One can only hope the X3 2nd gen is getting the same love soon :)

Is it me or the player has a bit more bass in the sub range with the new 1.4fw?

Probably just psychosomatic :p  Or are you catching a cold, perhaps?
