Chicago, Detroit, Minnesota Head-Fi Gathering Dates *with* HeadRoom!

Jude: You've probably already been talking to Tyll about how much room he needs, but just in case, having experienced this already I'll tell you - No, you definitely do NOT want to try to do this in your living room. For one thing, those cases are heavy which is why he has them mounted on...

    Save your hearing

Vertigo-1: I used your old Sony MDR CD3000s. I wouldn't worry about being able to handle the volume. One of the things I got a kick out of about this are all the warnings and disclaimers about possible damage due to ears and equip. At one point on track 1, as you probably know by now, the...

    Save your hearing

Back on 9/26 Jon Beilin recommended (http://www.digital-recordings.com/)as a place to get hearing testing gear. I just got my Audio-CD ($24.95) and have to recommend it to everyone if you care at all about preserving your hearing or knowing what parts of your music you're missing. It's easy to...

    CD or LP: MY problem....

coolvij: Probably too late to try to change your mind, but got to throw in 2 cents worth. I've been collecting classical (and some jazz and misc.) LPs for 30 years and the collection after extensive weeding due to numerous moves is still in the 1000s so I feel like I have a little experience...

    CD or LP: MY problem....

coolvij: The only way you could damage your LPs with "cheap" equip. would be to use a cartridge with a worn stylus or a tonearm that can't be adjusted to a light enough tracking weight. These days it would be hard to find a tonearm that won't track down to a gram or so even in used equip. The...

    CD or LP: MY problem....

coolvij: I agree with Budgie and KurtW. One of the neat things about vinyl equip.is that there's tons of it out there being discarded by those who are put off by inner-groove distortion, etc., etc., blah blah blah and if you're willing to shop a little you can get good quality, good operating...

Northwest headroom meet - there just wasn't enough time to hear 'em all

jude: That's close. Actually, I think Tyll had been taking out some hostility on them. They were the only ones where the cord was literally tied in knots. It took about 5 minutes just to get it untangled and the whole time I was afraid Neruda would see me working on it and get on my case. You...

Northwest headroom meet - there just wasn't enough time to hear 'em all

I just got back to my PC and read the thread and it looks like Neruda, eric, budgie and tyll have already given you a pretty good rundown. But it was so fantabulous (good word Neruda) and being basically a newbie compared to the other guys I had kind of a different take on the whole experience...

It is happening. (Pacific Northwest get-together)

Budgie: If it's before 9 or so you might have to help clean up after breakfast and there won't be much else happening. The clock runs a lot slower in the country. Tyll: See ya' when we see ya'.

It is happening. (Pacific Northwest get-together)

Well, in the thread on the Bay Area get together KurtW mentioned this weekend is the San Jose Jazz Festival. Your Dad could drop you off and pick you up on the way back. Unfortunately Lewis County, not being a cultural hotbed, doesn't offer any jazz atrractions I know of.

Eric: What do your folks like to do? There's some pretty good antiqueing in Centralia. Got to think of something that will reinforce their desire to bring you.

It is happening. (Pacific Northwest get-together)

Neruda: We have some Costco chicken in the freezer. Think they're free range. At least the last time I was there the stockers were out in the parking lot chasing birds. Hmmm, maybe those were seagulls. Hmmm, maybe what we have in the freezer is ......(free range seagulls???)

It is happening. (Pacific Northwest get-together)

Budgie: Strictly selfish motivations: hoping someone will bring their Sony CD3000s so I can audition them. Broad hint; Nudge, nudge, Wink, wink!! Tyll: Sure, there's a shower. Just bring lots of quarters (hahahehe). When are you arriving? Want to come in Fri. nite? I have a barbeque, but...

It is happening. (Pacific Northwest get-together)

Hokey!!!!! Here's the directions. From north or south: I-5 to the Winlock/Toledo exit (#63); west 3 miles thru Winlock and across the RR. Immediately across the RR take a right on Kerron St.; 1 1/2 miles north (pausing 30 seconds in awe [or not] of the World's Largest Egg) to Nelson Rd.; left 1...

Senn Owners: How do you wear your 'phones?

Interesting you should ask about that. First thing I noticed about mine was that they didn't feel as comfortable with the headband toward the top (back) of my head which also felt like the "normal" or "right" position with the earpieces vertical, but when I positioned the headband forward it's...

    Northwest Meeting Status

Could be, but just for the record where else can you see Tyll, the Orpheus AND the "WORLD'S LARGEST EGG" in the same day.

Attack of the vintage headphones Part 2

So are there ANY "vintage" headphones you guys would recommend? Sure - the technology of the 70s and 80s wasn't what it is today, but it wasn't exactly the dark ages either. There must have been some top of the line units from Koss, Stanton etal. that sound good and might occasionally show up on...

    Northwest Meeting Status

Let's not be knocking Winlock too hard. Tyll may not want to come if too much of the truth is revealed in advance. And where else will you be able to see the Orpheus AND the "WORLD'S LARGEST EGG" all in the same day?

eric: If your Dad can average 75 door to door it's only an hour, 20 mins. budgie's got the right strategy. Tell him it's just south of Tacoma.

    Northwest Meeting Status

Well if it helps people decide whether they're coming or not and it's at my place it'll be 1 1/2 hrs. no. of Port. and 2 hrs. so. of Seattle (30 miles no. of Longview and 15 miles so. of Chehalis). Neruda, you make the final call on date and place and let me know if I should post directions.

    Northwest Meeting Status

I'm still game to have it at my place, but has anybody heard from Neruda? Don't know if he found another location. And last I saw the date was still up in the air depending on how many atheists are in the group. Headwize forums still down. Maybe there's a post over there.

    Pacific Northwest Get-Together

Neruda: Assuming you're counting for the Portland end I'll probably come, at least for awhile (probably have to spend the usual 3-4 hrs. at Powells if I drive to Port.) and my wife will probably be with me if Tyll's willing to count her toward the required 8. I'm still willing to offer my place...

    Best music for auditioning

Glad to see the votes for Fanfare for the Common Man, but if you haven't heard it before keep the volume down from the gitgo or you won't have any use for headphones anymore after the first few bars.

    Seattle Inmates?

Tyll: My schedule is really flexible. Let's see what some of the others can do. Eric343: I've been in traffic to Yankees games, Mets games, to the Meadowlands on fall Sundays and last Thursday past Safeco field an hour before game time. Guess which of the above was the worst. But enough about...
