    Looking for headphones ~$150

by your avatar, you look like someone that might like the shure srh-440's [because they are better than the 840's on portable devices]. from your description, they might actually be what you're looking for. also, i heard the ath-m50's are comparable but with their own unique qualities. good luck...

    Warning Signs of HeadFi Addiction

i was watching a movie and they cut to a scene where it's a montage of radio stations rallying some kind of cause, i was intently trying to identify the headphones used. i noticed a lot of mdr-v6.

    Headphone lifespan?

buy a koss hp with lifetime warranty and don't think about it, so long as the company lasts >_> [yeah go buy koss so they stay in business and therfore are there forever if others buy into it too, so you'll have a supply of the same ones forever for a low replacement fee of 6$ i believe].

    Shure SRH840 earpad mod.

this mod was applied to my 440's pads: got the socks today. bought 2 pair actually in case i messed up... good call. i used a fat usb cable to hold it down over the sock ends inside and cut the cable slightly longer than necessary so i could double over the bottom portion for a better seal...

    Shure Srh440 vs AT Athm50

i've read in another thread that the ear cups on the srh840 are deeper too; was this your impression, or was it simply the pads that helped? i'm tempted to buy the srh840 pads because it seems i'd like the sound signature, sensitivity, and "portability" of the srh440 more than the srh840. also...

i was looking deeply into great closed cans, and i'd have to say the srh440 was a great choice for me. i was leaning towards the mdr v6 or ath-m50 for a while, but i prefer more natural, realistic bass which isnt too too boomy. this was the deciding factor for me. they are great all-around, and...
