Looking around for speakers <700$ for PC usage.
Never heard them, not many probably have, but these would be on my short list to try. http://www.kef.com/html/us/showroom/digital_music_solutions/x300a/overview/- pyramid6

What's The BEST Universal Lossless Codec Would You Suggest?
If you own a Mac, use ALAC. If you own a Linux box, FLAC. Windows either. I wouldn't use windows lossless, don't remember what it's called. I would probably go lossless at home and mp3 320 for portable.- pyramid6

What is the best Apple Mac setup for music?
About the best mac you can buy is a Mac Mini. What I have: Standard Mac Mini 16 gb from other world computing Solid state drive from other world computing HD add on kit from ifixit Cost about $850 I think. You can use just about any DAC. It has USB, Firewire, and...- pyramid6

How bad is the Airport Express really? What can I expect in an upgrade?
The airport can output optical into a DAC. I'm skeptical that you will hear a difference between that and USB. Digital is digital, at least I have never seen any measurements that lead me to believe one digital is superior to another. The airport can only do 44.1k/16bit. Most modern DAC's...- pyramid6

Pictures of your computer rigs! Post them here!
I think the Gallant has T-legs and A-legs. The T-legs can be adjusted, but are probably more wobbly than the A-legs. The table top its self is solid as heck. Edit: I have three Galants.- pyramid6

buzzing noise
If it is a tube amp, it could be a tube. I think tube amps are noisier than solid state. I've only heard one tube amp that did not make a buzzing sound. I use low impedance headphone though.- pyramid6

Starter DAC/Amp to run headphones and speakers
It could. You might be able to get a headphone amp without a DAC and use the tape out on your kenwood amp. The picture is small, and I don't know the specifications of your speakers or amp. I've been looking to build a small desktop setup similar to what you want. I finally decided to...- pyramid6

Starter DAC/Amp to run headphones and speakers
Any headphone amp/dac with a pre-amp out and a power amp. You can hide the power amp, or at least put it elsewhere.- pyramid6

[LIST][OPINION] Amp recommendations for Fostex/Denon Headphones.
Quote: The WA6, WA22 are not OTL amps. I don't really remember about the CSP-2, I think it was OTL. I would look more at the output impedance than I would the topography. 3 or less is good, 2.5 or less is better. Still better to try it out with your headphones. Or buy...- pyramid6

I put all my tubes in and turned it on, of course I had white smoke come out of mine. Turned out it was nothing, but I managed to break a tube in the process. Email Craig, he's good about answering. Edit: small typo.- pyramid6

[LIST][OPINION] Amp recommendations for Fostex/Denon Headphones.
The Asgard works well. I didn't like the Concerto that much, but I don't remember why. I love the Zana Deux SE (oh no an OTL amp ). I think it sounds great, and I like the versatility. It's 3 Ohms I think btw. I didn't like the WA22 with the D7000, and I didn't like the WA6 with the D5000...- pyramid6

Quote: http://us.marantz.com/us/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?CatId=AVSeparates&SubCatId=0&ProductId=AV7005 can be used with actives. You just need a receiver that can be hooked up to some amps, like amps in the speakers.- pyramid6

The Audeze LCD-2 Ortho thread (New)
Someone should contact Audeze, but I'm betting the older rosewoods have a 3 year warranty. The newer rosewoods have a one year warranty. I think the rosewood cracks too easily, and they don't want to have to replace after 1 year. The bamboo has a 3 year warranty because it probably doesn't...- pyramid6

Active Speakers/Monitors: Dispelling the ignorance, confusion and myths
Quote: Unless you have a specific need or desire for a certain sound, you are probably going to be better off bypassing the WA6SE. You will just wind up amplifying noise and distortion. If your speakers do not have a volume control, then you will need some sort of pre-amp (if your DAC... -
New Flagship from Audio-Technica: ATH-W3000ANV, 50th Anniversary Headphones

New Flagship from Audio-Technica: ATH-W3000ANV, 50th Anniversary Headphones
I use the WDS-1, it has volume control. I believe the volume adjustment is on the voltage sent to the DAC chip, not anything done after the conversion. In theory, you should get the full dynamic range. It allows me to use more range of the amp. This is especially nice on the WA22 which has a...- pyramid6
