Grado sr80 pads compatible with sr60?
These are my every day SR 80s. Grados seem to have very tight tolerances and if you do modify them be carefull to make very small alterations. And try to use similar materials as John Grado did, and you can fine tune them to your taste. If you make radical changes, like removeing the model...- mcpig

Cable Upgrades - Do they really make a difference??
I don’t own, nor have I ever heard the HD 650. I did re-cable my Grado SR 80s with a HD 650 stock cable. It is a good quality cable and more flexible than a Grado cable. I am impressed with it so far. The wire is multi-strand, but each individual wire is thinly insulated so that none of the...- mcpig

Grado Cable
Are you looking for a new Grado cable, or some thing different? My Grado cable was worn out. I replaced it with a Senn HD650 cable. It is a lot more flexible, and it uses a higher grade copper. It has nice transparent sound as well.- mcpig

Anyone ever fix their laptop mouse ?
You can get a marble mouse and use it instead of the built in mouse, that would save you the re-investment. This solution has some issues but it is cost effective. Another option is to look on ebay for a damaged, part out laptop, and see if you can scavange the part you need.- mcpig

Basic Amp questions from a beginner
You might have tried the PA2v2 with its darker tones with the triports and found your heaven. As it is you need to figure with the money you want to spend what will brighten your 650s. Try a Xin amp if you have the patience, it deals with upgraditis at your cash value. And you can tune it to...- mcpig

Another Best Solder Thread...
I like to avoid silver, so I use copper content solder. This is one of my mini cords based on copper, UHPLC copper wire, large 3.5mm plugs (brass w/24k plate), with copper content solder.- mcpig

Grado SR80 Impressions thread!
Grado’s tend to be tight, forward and aggressive sounding with mid and treble tones. Not as much bass as others, making them a bit on the analytical side. So they tend to be clear, crisp, with tight punchy bass. That might make them quick, I suppose.- mcpig

Grado SR80 Impressions thread!
These are the first headphones I’ve owned that I don’t cup with my hands and make them a little tighter to hear the music just a little more intimately. After having used OEM Sony’s and a couple of generic IEMs, I’ve had my 80s for just short of 2 years and truly enjoy them. I wear them daily...- mcpig

Mini to mini....big difference?
In my opinion a mini can make very big difference. Using Grado headphones as an example; from the SR 225 model up to the GS1000 model all use UHPLC copper in the voice coils and as well as the cables. So it stands to reason that using the same wire in a mini would have a noticeable impact. I... -
Poll: What's more important, WIRE or CONNECTORS?
I think a good IC is a combination of all things being of good quality and of similar materials. Being a fan of high quality copper, I start by using the best copper, then look for a copper or brass plug, gold plating is a big plus, but avoid silver or nickel sub plating. Since copper is the key...- mcpig

DIY Cable Gallery!!
I have been developing a new cord that is primarily copper through out. These are the plugs I thought that I would use. They are machined from brass and plated with 24K gold, no other sub plating. They are bigger than a typical plug but very well made and extremely attractive. I added the gold...- mcpig

Litz Braiding
Litz-braided construction; a odd or even number of strands of solid core wire. For a 4 wire braid it consists of taking the left negative, left positive, right positive and right negative wire strands in this specific order. Taking the outside right strand and passing over strands into the...- mcpig
