RS-1 Appreciation Thread starts here!!!!
The RS1 (buttonless) I have tend to be my most engaging headphones, insofar as emotional involvement in music is concerned. I find this to be true with any source material with a prominent electric guitar. No one else comes close to involving the listener with this instrument the way RS1s...- auris

Are imod ipods really that amazing?
I bought a 5.5 generation iMod initially to save some wear and tear on my old Cal Audio Labs tube output CD player and to use as a music server of sorts for my home system (in conjunction with a V- cap dock). I liked it enough that I bought another iPod and also had it converted. It...- auris

Grado GS1000 or GS100i ?
Just my opinion, but I don't think the newer cable justifies spending forty-two percent more for the same model headphone. For that kind of money (300 euros), you can get the headphones recabled by one of the aftermarket companies if you want to later on. I'd much rather spend the 300 euros on...- auris

Singlepower amp registry
Don't get around here too often, so I've missed the bad news. Until now. I have a stock SinglePower PPX3 SLAM that I ordered new in July, 2005.- auris

Show us your vintage headphones!
Quote: Actually the 424X had 600 ohm drivers and wasn't around until 1979/1980 or so. (The old HD424 was made ca. 1976..79, AFAIK.) Yours looks to be in good shape. Now that I'm really thinking about it, I think you're right on the date range. Initially, my only remembrance was that...- auris

Whats the difference between Grado RS-1 and RS1i
According to the Grado website, the driver was also "upgraded." Whether or not the newer driver was used at all prior to the release of the "i" version is a mystery to me.- auris

The HD800 Pricing: Some thoughts
Quote: Last time I checked the "great depression 2" was off the table......I have followed this "economy" for quite some time and frankly it has been driven down far too much by short selling on wall street and media propoganda.....everyone loves bad news..... negativity sells....thats the...- auris

The HD800 Pricing: Some thoughts
Quote: The other problem is that the sinking economy is going to push down on used gear. If you've been laid off and need to keep a roof over your head and food in the cupboard, unloading audio gear is a good option. The subprime storm has mostly passed, but option ARMs and Alt-A loans are...- auris

The Grado HF2--It's For Real
Quote: These 'phones are being offered to us (I thought) because we have a particular love for headphones and that deserves some kind of recognition and appreciation. It follows that any kind of custom made Grado offering will be irresistable to us, because we REALLY LOVE AND APPRECIATE...- auris

Do you travel with your Full size high impedance headphones?
I've flown domestically a few times with a pair of full size headphones and a portable amp in a carry-on and never had a problem. That includes one time at LAX when a TSA guy had me empty everything in the carry-on for his inspection. My headphones and amp made it. A can of Diet Coke that I...- auris

AKG K501 first impression
Moonboy, your version is definitely the last before AKG officially discontinued the k501. But, "improved bass"? Makes me wonder what the earlier versions sounded like in that area. Like you, I found the bass okay for acoustic music, but a bit deficient for most anything else. Your findings on...- auris

Horse-Flogging: K601 or K701?
Quote: I really want to hear the K601, pretty much for the same reasons I think you do...namely that some say they are a tad better for rock than the K701. Anyway, about the grados...more exciting than the K701, at least for rock. I have owned SR225s (sold to acquire HF-1s). I...- auris

PC to Mac: My Not-So-Genius Switch
I switched from PC to Mac a few years ago and have never looked back. That said, I'm not a gamer, I have no use for gaming software, specialized software, etc. I pretty much just use the Internet, do some basic word processing, and some photo work. I use iTunes as my default music server and run...- auris
