Copy and pasting the statement we have on the "wood" page from our site, which I tend to agree with. 😍😍😍

The wood used to make each cup does not affect the frequency response of the headphone. Spectrum variants will have a slight effect on the timbre of the headphone.
This means that things like decay, speed and transient attack are slightly affected by wood choice, while the frequency response attributes remain the same.

Typically, we recommend you choose the wood you find the most aesthetically pleasing, as wood choice won't have a large enough effect on the headphones sound to make you like or dislike the headphone.

Trolls live everywhere. Not just the forest.
Glad you understand yourself well. Agree with this :L3000:

Not to mention the ability to fine tuning sound with rolling pad is great too Zach.

We do our best to describe things! Will try to strive to make things clearer than they already are as we move forward too. I know there's no substitute for hearing our headphones yourself, since we all hear things a little differently to our preferences.

Thank you!

You do a good job anyway. It’s just when a newbie reads a comment from a forum member and “self proclaimed expert” with either an agenda or a distorted view, you then have no idea if it is fact or fiction.

I'll copy & post it here since it's also relevant to the discussion I guess.

I think in the end it might be picking at nits, but of course that's exactly what audiophiles are known for. The differences might be discernible to many, but the type of wood isn't going to markedly change the character of the headphone itself. A touch of nuance to the sound, or the judicious use of spice maybe, but nothing that would change what makes a Verite...well, a Verite.

For some it is the last piece of a sonic puzzle to dial in the sound signature they're seeking, for others...maybe most it's more like an interesting subtle difference. It's easy to get lost in the "dragon chasing" as it were, but in the end a ZMF won't go from "Beautiful" to "Argh" with a wood change. I'm sure this is why Zach includes that caveat on the website, someone without the funds for the "better" wood isn't missing out & shouldn't really fret. But for those with the funds and the inclination, it can be worth every penny.

Just my 2 cents...probably worth far less. Zach said it better anyway.

Perfectly said.

Hey there folks, can anyone point me in the direction of Verite Closed measurements with different pads? I saw a post here by Zach about a year ago that has VC measurements for the Uni, Auteur, and Verite pads but I'm looking for a resource with all the compatible pad types if there's one.

Just trying to get a better understanding of what I'm hearing, and as to why I seemingly like the Universe lambs the most so far.

Some other questions (as a new ZMF owner):

1) How do you correctly orient the pads in terms of rotation i.e. how do you know when you have to rotate it a bit more.

2) Has anyone tried the Eikon Lamb on the VC? I really like it for guitar tones but it sounds claustrophobic/closed-in. I guess this could change if I pair it with a tube amplifier that I have coming if it changes the FR quite a bit, but I just want to know if anyone else has the same opinion.

Cheers.

P.S.

Absolutely amazing headphone by the way @zach915m, it amazes me how it barely feels like I'm listening to a closed-back headphone at times. Couldn't be happier with my Donatello, and the way the colours just pop out when they are hit with proper lighting—utterly amazing.

Just got my BE2 pads. I can confirm the vocals come forward. Comfort takes a hit but nothing to worry about
yeah ill try the BE2 since they also came with the headphones Ive been loving the sound of the Universe pads just the vocals was the only nitpick I had; the Auteur pads on the other hand had this certain and very uncomfortable treble peak that felt like it was drilling from my ear into my brain (of course exaggerating a bit but still)

After owning 5 different ZMF headphones, I have a little pad-rolling tip. Don't ever write off a particular pad entirely after trying it and deciding you prefer another at the time. I've learned that preferences can change with time, season, mood, sinus congestion, etc. Changes in upstream gear can also cause you to prefer a different pad. Weirdly enough, I even prefer different pads on my two Auteurs, so in some cases, even wood selection plays a role. Disclaimer, my Ash and Blackwood Auteurs are on either extreme of the wood density chart. I've even heard of ZMF owners that didn't like one pad during the burn-in period and then decided it was exactly what they were looking for after a couple hundred hours of use.

The moral of the story is to keep a number of different pads on hand for your ZMF's, whichever model you have. You never know what variable will change your preference from one pad type to another, so it's best to have a few options available even if it's just to mix things up from time to time.

Hello ZMF Lovers out there 😁

I think about buying a (again) a pair of Verite Closed headphones but I don’t know if my Lotoo PAW Gold Touch has enough power for the VCs.

It outputs 500mW @ 32 Ohms.

Thanks for your help
Best

Anything over 30mW at 300 ohms will do fine for volume, anything extra will provide headroom.
