ZEN by DUNU: our first model designed around next-generation driver platform ECLIPSƎ
Dec 17, 2020 at 3:57 PM Post #63 of 1,326
For those wondering why the website is still pretty uninformative, we do want to apologize in advance; our staff is really squeezed for time, and we haven't had time to really setup a nice functional mini-site like what we've done for our other releases this year. But we'll make an update announcement when we get that up and running.

Here's a small consolation, a little animation of our driver vibrating:

Even aside from all your products, I just want to give some appreciation and recognition for how you give such open, detailed and responsive answers to all the comments posted here; terrific service and connection with the community:thumbsup::)

Thanks for the kind words --- the biggest goal for us this past year was to re-engage with the community in a big way. We've been active on Head-Fi since 2011, and the passion that members showed was remarkable. Originally, we thought that meant really putting our mark on the show circuit, giving technical seminars and attending symposia, getting feedback, etc. but of course a certain virus dashed those plans. However, we want to continue communicating the ideas we have about furthering the boundaries of IEM technology, as well as how to best harness this tech in tuning. So we encourage everyone to fire away with questions!

Really hope I get a chance to hear these at some point. The work in the driver alone is promising. I was very excited by the Luna, still would like to hear it, but the general consensus on the tuning has me shying away from blindly buying. Hoping to see a sub $500 single DD "Elex" version (Since you have the Luna (Utopia) / Zen (Clear) / _____ (Elex)

LUNA is a model that was tuned with the specific feedback of flagship IEM collectors in China. Even for a place as populous as China, this is a very small, exclusive group that is fastidious about what they want to hear in a flagship level product, and so even at the outset, we wanted to make sure people understood that it might not necessarily be an earphone that was built for 'the everyman'. However, we also felt it possessed technical properties that had never been heard in any dynamic driver in-ear to date, and wanted as many people to listen as possible. We wanted to showcase what the combination of our composite driver construction and a pure beryllium foil dome would do for sound performance. So, while LUNA hasn't won everyone over on the tonal balance front, almost everyone has agreed that it takes performance to an unprecedented level for dynamic drivers. ZEN is about getting close to that level of technical performance, making it available at a more accessible price, and tuning it to be better accepted for a wider range of people.

We're hopeful that we'll be able to continue to refine our production techniques and workflow for ECLIPSƎ drivers down to the < $250 and < $150 segment. We might not be able to use a pure metal/alloy dome, but at least we can vary the material, thickness, and pliability of the dome and surround greatly with a composite driver design, as well as be able to treat the dome and surround separately to different coatings or physical treatments. We feel ECLIPSƎ gives us a great amount of flexibility to play with.

Can you give us some details on the DK-2001 successor?
It would be with beryllium plated DD + 3BA? It would be in the exact ECLIPS3 platform? It would be in close/similar price range as the DK-2001? When it will be released?
Will the ECLIPS3 platform will be used in new models less than 300$?

Thanks!

Not much to reveal about it yet, honestly. Our engineers are staying pretty tight lipped about it. We're an engineer-led company. Company management respects the decisions made by our engineers. Yes, we do try to spur them along when they're taking their time with things, but if they insist they're not ready, we respect that choice. As for pricing, unless our development costs overrun by a bit too much, there's no reason why it won't stay within the same sub-$300 price bracket.

Ear's are more than open as DK 3001 Pro & Studio SA6 impressed, being solid favourite's. When will Zen be released in China? As I'm resident and keen to listen.

Which city do you live in? If you live in one of the major metropolises there should be a store that already has them available for listening. We can point you in the right direction for in-store audition units.

Any idea on SEA tour?

Would you like to help organize it? If so, shoot us a message!

Well, then that's simple! There are two choices, both of which are pretty prominent --- you probably have heard of them (or even visited before):
  1. New Sound Stage (新声域)
    Address: 深圳市罗湖区嘉宾路爵士大厦B座20B05
  2. Leiyin Audio (雷音音频), AKA Shenzhen Audio (their overseas arm)
    Address: 深圳市福田区华强北路万商电器城4层9号

Forgot to add one more for ya, @Queen6
Hongxiang Audio/Video (鸿翔影音)
Address: 深圳宝安区新安街道50区海汇路华海商务大厦A518

Does the DK-2001's successor will be the most least expensive in the line or are we going to see the platform in more models?

Thanks! Can't wait for your future releases!

It's too early to say what we'll end up doing for our hybrid models. The DK-4001, DK-3001 PRO, and DK-2001 are all due to be replaced some time this year. We've only decided to work on the DK-2001 replacement first. We may end up doing a hybrid model at an even lower price point, but there's nothing concrete yet. So the answer is, "Dunno".
