Very cool! My only hope is that it gets cheaper.
Is that a screw on cable? I like to make cables, so that would make recabling a bit easier.

D7k doesn't even belong in that group. If you are considering it and can get it go for it and don't look back at the XB1000.

I sent headphone.com a mail to ask if they could possibly review this one when it hits the states, would be very interested in seeing how the frequency response would compare to XB700 and XB500 as that would be very helpful for me at least.

Here's a review from a japanese blog... http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/vanillin_c8h8o3/23200284.html
Google translate http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=sv&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=ja&tl=en&u=http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/vanillin_c8h8o3/23200284.html - Ouch, you'll need a GOOD chunk of imagination to even understand a small portion of it. Maybe works better reading if drunk? At least it has some pics if nothing else. lol If any1 knows japanese would be nice if you could point out the most interesting details thx.

Yea what I gathered and what it looks like, it would be the XB700 pads.
Here's some other XB1000 link that shows how the bass vent looks like on XB1000 down on the page, instead of 3 holes it's now one bigger hole. http://yoga.blog.so-net.ne.jp/mdr-xb1000-get
That's actually quite interesting I think, I wonder if you'd even get slightly more bass by covering the hole partially, like shrink it on the sides by adding blutak to it... that's something I had definitely tried experimenting with. Since it's that big now it may actually get countereffective if you're just trying to maximize bass output (ofc it may lead to bigger soundstage having a bigger hole but yea it's something I'd definitely experiment with by resizing the hole).

I don't know but it does look great and possibly could contribute to bigger soundstage from the bigger airchamber created between the pads and the ear and possibly slightly more bass from the better seal. Would be interesting to hear the difference it does. Notice however it's the DJ1 Pro (similar to Pro 550) and Pro model has less bass than DJ1-non Pro (same driver as your HFI-580). Unfortunately DJ1 Pro looks to be using bigger cups tho that seems to fit those pads perfectly... Maybe XB500 pads would fit DJ1 non-pro/HFI-580.
EDIT: Here's another one, didn't understand much of it when translating this one either http://seranipoji2000.wordpress.com/2011/02/10/%E6%A5%AD%E7%95%8C%E6%9C%80%E5%A4%A7%E3%81%A0%E3%82%88-mdr-xb1000/
And another one http://moeaudio.blog29.fc2.com/blog-entry-1086.html
Man I wish I knew japanese, could have gotten quite good picture of it already.

I have now officially fried my brains by reading those japanese sites
And i couldn't even conclude properly since what they provide is very ambiguous, because i tried to read them using two translation services and the results were quite different.

FYI Sony XB pads are not a plug and play affair on other phones.
