Yamaha EPH-100

I had the moisture issue once before but was able to fix it.  That time the sound was altered, but I don't remember in what way. This time its purely reduced volume.  I'll try drying it out and see if that fixes it. My method of removing the moisture is putting the corner of a paper (or folded paper) into the little slits on the sides.  The paper absorbs the moisture (you can see it visually).  Its tedious but I repeat this many times and it worked the first time I had the moisture issue.  We'll see what happens this time.

This time the issue started after a flight from Portland, OR (moist air) to Denver, CO (dry air). Maybe that was the culprit.

The EPH-100 is an incredible IEM. The detail and tonal balance are both amazing for the money.

Sadly, the large drivers hurt my ears. I will be returning them and sticking to over the ear with foam tips.

Someone could help me choosing between EPH-100 and RHA MA750 for edm and trance music?

I found them excellent for EDM.

Vocals suck on these iems lol. Very sibilant on female voices like ellie goulding. Paired it with a fiio x3ii. Stock tips.

But again these are not tuned for reference music. I enjoyed these on metal and dubstep/house/techno etc. Mids are a little recessed though. The best part of this iem is the enveloping bass.

It's very hard to get spare tips for the EPH100. If I was you is crate a WTB ad on Head-Fi to see if anyone has some going spare. Also can try contacting Yamaha or AudioAffair to see if they can help you out.

Hey, long-time lurker here. It was this thread that originally erred me into getting my trusty EPH-100's about three years ago. Sadly they've recently given up the ghost. I had the well-documented driver volume problem occasionally, always remedied itself after a while. Now it looks like it's here to stay though - one ear is persistently lower volume and very 'muddy' compared to the other. The phones still sound great (which is testament to how impressive they are I guess) but it's too noticeable not to be aggravating. When the issue was intermittent, it almost always happened towards the end of a long run (10k+). I sweat quite a lot which adds weight to the thinking that it's a moisture issue. I'll probably end up with another pair at some point (I hope they don't go out of stock), but in the interim I've decided to opt for a change and have a pair of RHA MA750's in the post.

Anyhoo, I've stuck my head above the parapet to comment on the above post. I've seen this mentioned a few times and never really understood why. When I contacted Yamaha they were fairly quick to link me up with a supplier that stocks replacement tips. They're not cheap but you can find them here.

We are concerned to read on recent posts that some of you may have received non genuine stocks from eBay sellers and elsewhere and we have also noticed a few sellers we've never heard of selling these (who aren't audio specialists. In several cases we've checked with Yamaha and Yamaha have not supplied them, so who knows where stocks have come from). We are UK based and as many of you have also mentioned we sell genuine Yamaha EPH100 that were supplied directly from Yamaha. What you may not also know is that these became an Audio Affair exclusive in 2013 and we took most of the remaining stocks that Yamaha had. We are UK based, but we ship internationally, so as we've suggested before, if the price looks too good to be true, it probably is. We saw pairs around $70-80 on various websites, but you have to consider that while its cheaper, they may not be genuine, so why take the risk? You're paying slightly less, but its essentially all money wasted if they're fake (and they could damage your hearing although thankfully we havent seen any suggestions of this yet!) We only sell genuine Yamaha EPH-100 for £69.95. Shipping is free to UK locations and we ship internationally. In most cases shipping to Europe is around £10 and not too much worldwide - also, if you're from outside of Europe and dont pay VAT, VAT is removed from your order at checkout on our website so you pay even less - http://www.audioaffair.co.uk/yamaha-eph100-earphones ...remember also that we offer a FULL 2 year warranty on EPH-100 and if they become faulty within that time, you can simply e-mail our customer service team and they will provide return details. Once they arrive back, we inspect them and can then advise on repair or replacement. Of the many sets we've sold, the number of faulty ones is very low, but at least along with getting a genuine set, you have that reassurance of the 2 year warranty, just incase

Totally agree, I bought 2 pairs from you guys over the last 3 years. First pair I sold to someone on here, they were still in perfect condition.

2nd pair I still have and will never sell.

Any chance you guys can get hold of the Dunu DN1000??

Just to add some insult to the injury:

I got a pair of these fantastic sounding IEMs years ago. I used them exclusively for the gym, so they took tons of sweating; they never missed a beat (I always cleaned them with a towel and stored them on a zip pouch with silica gel after each use).

I dropped from the gym for about a year, using them only occasionaly as my computer IEMs. No sweating, no anything, but I started to notice a volume unbalance.

I last used them about a month ago, I left them (as is, no pouch, just left alone on a drawer) now just tried to use them and low and behold... left earbud has the dread "Humidity Killed the Volume" syndrome I have never experienced before.

Have stored them on a tupperware full with rice hoping to recover them, but I think the lesson to be learnt is maybe the material used on these IEMs drivers is hydrophilic, so to keep them from the HKV syndrome they should always be stored on an air-tight container or zip pouch with silica gel.

My EPH-100 have had been back from the dead for 6 times due to same issue - moisture. The left driver went out twice which I believe due to prolonged listening for around 1-2 hours. So that makes it 8.  Now, my EPH-100 is retired and I decided to use it as sparingly as possible because I don't want this Veteran among veterans died on my ears again.

Enter JVC HA-FXD80Z with EPH-100 ear tips as the substitute.

jeeez. you don't find the FXD80s shrill/tinny-sounding compared to the EPH-100?
