Sort of on the fence about this one

From what I have read, this player sounds great for its price, has solid build quality, and overall works pretty well. The only thing I am worried about is reliability (if I will have an awesome clip replacement that lasts for 6 months and breaks or not). I had a clip +, it lasted 1 year when I used it, and lasted an extra 2 years semi-taken apart in my drawer (it was literally abused, and still turned on when I dug it up one day). +1 to sansa reliability
I have also had the clip sport, which fixed the jack issue the clip+ had, and was extremely durable.

Got a few questions for you guys, since you have a lot more experience!

1) Will the clip+/sport, combined with fiio e6 amp, be same or better than the x2 in terms of sound?
2) What does the clip lack when compared to x2 on its own? Is it less detailed, or other?
3) If I use a clip by itself with, say, a 22 ohm iem @ 105 sensitivity, how much worse is it compared to x2?
4) Does anyone have experience with cowon iAudio i9, 9+, or 10 for comparison or opinions?

Basically, if the clip is only slightly worse, I would choose it based on its reliability. Also, RMA and shipping for products like these is annoying (RMA'ed cowon c2 3 times, eventually sold)

(I think X2 will sound better than clip sport and E6, also be one device solution)

2) What does the clip lack when compared to x2 on its own? Is it less detailed, or other?

(clip is less detailed and weaker technically, areas like soundstage and separation are stronger on X2. X2 also has more power, quite a bit more)

3) If I use a clip by itself with, say, a 22 ohm iem @ 105 sensitivity, how much worse is it compared to x2?

(I'd say X2 is probably a 20% increase in detail + that technical advantage mentioned)

(I own Cowon iAudio 9, X2 sounds better, and especially a lot more power. You'll just find X2 to be more capable over all the DAP you've mentioned. It's actually a really great little unit. Just keep your expectations real for $55)

Well.....that just demolished and hope for the sansa

Guess I'll go for the x2, hopefully it holds up!

I have owned the clip zip, clip + and a clip sport.. They sound good, but the X2 is a step up for sure!

The X2 makes even hard to drive headphones and iems sound really freaking awesome for 55 bucks. I would say that my Shure 840 sounds better on the X2 then my HRT headstreamer for example.

However, when paired with sensitive iems, like my Klipsch R6 there is some backgroud noise, not to a bothering level though. But with the VERY VERY sensitive KC06 it´s to much..But the KC06 is to sensitive for many DAPS and even Dac/amp combos out there.

The ergonomic part is better on the X2 as well. I have no issues with the interface and i find it very easy to use., The buttons are easy to find when fiddling around in your pocket for example. I have issues with the sleek buttons on the clip.

Thanks for your replies guys!

So the x2 handily beats clip in SQ, and it seems fairly reliable.

Has anyone encountered freezes or any thing to suggest this device is unreliable? I don't mean to be annoying, just want a guarantee that I won't have to do through another cowon experience and send this thing back 3 times for RMA D;

Mine have been solid as  a rock.. Not a single hickup.

If you missed this in the thread. The usb transfer speed is very slow, even with a fast card. You will need an external card reader.. if your time is precious :)

i would suggest people avoid trying the beta update for now.

my x2 shut off on the train to work with about 3/4 battery left.
I though - well, I'll just reboot it with a paperclip when I get home
but ... it just sits there clicking relays like on startup except when connected to a charger
nothing happens and doesn't boot.

any buttons without power connected = no response (including reset)

I've contacted xduoo support to investigate. Not sure if it is related to the beta firmware update but if you want to chose between no flac and possibly RMAA - avoid installing it until the issue is confirmed by support for me

On other forums: the cause of self-termination and freezes can be a static electricity.

This is exactly what happened to mine. Not sure what FW I was on but it just clicks but it's completely dead.

I wasn't going to say anything up until now.

The last 3 days, (and especially the last 24 hours) my unit has been shutting down and resetting.

First time it just froze and reset itself.
Then it froze and wouldn't turn back on for 20 minutes.
Another time it skipped the music and reset again back to the start.
I had another error half way through a song saying 'format error"
And just 5 minutes ago I got half way through a song and it turned off (won't turn back on again)

I tried removing all tags from my card but the problem remains and the interval between shutdowns is getting much shorter. Up until now I had no problems with my unit since it arrived but the last 3 days it's been nothing but an annoyance and I'm not one to usually complain about an occasional freeze.

I guess I will send it back for a replacement but I cannot recommend this player anymore, there's something wrong with them from the reports we're getting. Something wrong with the circuitry or something burning out slowly? Quite a few cases now.

[Edit]: It appears the symptoms mentioned above were due to having low battery power (almost flat). Since charging the unit - mentioned issues above disappeared and the unit is functioning properly again. We have come to understand the battery meter on XDuoo X2 can be moderately inaccurate. Whilst my unit showed 3/4 bars when these problems occurred it was actually almost flat causing confusion.

Did you also install the update? I wonder if it could be related to it? I personally can't comment on such issues as I haven't been using mine that much. Probably an hour a day and since the update I've used it for just half an hour. On the other hand, before the update I piled on a few hundred hours on it while burning some iems and didn't notice issues aside from inconsistent battery life, which might point out to a problem with the battery used.

Its kind of bitter sweet but I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue. I might ask them for a refund and just save up for the FiiO X1 instead.

I didn't install the update.

Its has been a while (many days) since I charged it, although it still said 3/4 bars I'm giving it charge now to see if it runs again like normal.

I will report back and let you guys know. Mine had been used quite a lot since it arrived smoothly, but the last few days its been playing up.

Yes, its becoming a little too regular. Let's see if a charge fixes my unit as its a little different, not completely dead, just switches off etc....
