Also, I bet that probably about 95% and more of the people who buy beats never heard any instrument live, probably never heard a person singling properly in person

Ridiculous claim. Distorted bass & colored sound are enjoyable by average the consumer. Perhaps accuracy matters only if you listen to the headphones a lot, and have  very eclectic  music taste.
I  also think that sennheiser stuff are overpriced, probably less than the monster stuff.

I personally find overtly accurate music reproduction (i just couldn't get myself to enjoy the HD 800 and T1 when i audited them) too boring as well but i thought accurate sound reproduction was the ultimate goal of headphones no?

Well, that what we are saying is "wrong". Sure, I get that some might like colored phones, but who would want distorted phones? Beats show great distortion, and people seem to think that there are no distortion in beats and claim that audiophile headphones are the ones with problems. This is the funny thing about sound. No one likes distorted or heavily colored monitors(screens, not speakers), but people like distorted and colored headphones...

For me the distorted bass sounded like an echo of the bass (i.e the  bass beat is repeated with a little delay) , and with genre like hip hop,
that was enjoyable,, at least when I demo-ed them in store.
With the biggest "bass echo" with the beat pro, the one supposed to be the best.

Echo... that sounds like transition response/ringing, not distortion. I see how reverb/ringing is enjoyable, but I won't call them distortion.

My point is Sennheiser has been using cheap plastics in HD 600's and 650's for years and have gotten away with it far longer than Beats have been around, and I have a graveyard of broken cans to prove it.

Yet they get no hate from audiophiles because well...........why? They're obviously overpriced if you go by materials. They also claim to be the best sounding headphones in the world, and have been for years. Yes they sound different than Beats but I would venture to say that Beats have far higher customer satisfaction than Sennheiser owners. Why? Because Beats are loud with a lot of sub bass. Sennheiser on the other hand, if bought by an audiophile, are always going to have competition in the hi fi world that does something better than them.

Well then distortion was then completely masked in the demo from the  store.

? Distortion is when the sound is changed, not necessary echo or masking... You didn't notice anything else besides echo?

Well, beats are known for good build and material. I'm not going to doubt that. So beats have higher customer satisfaction... I really think that it is because people haven't had a chance to try better headphones. I have friends that would buy the beats for $300, and claim that senns are too expensive!

I didn't hear the "original' sound, how do I know then if it's changed (distorted), and why it would matter if it sounds good ?
Beside that , the treble was heavily cut, at least with the beats solo (zero transient from top treble), but this sounded good with the music selection.
And again, that big soundstage from solo, that I believe was reached artificially with some dsp (otherwise I  love that soundstage, beat sennheiser in what they are supposed to be best).

No, Beats have cheap materials too, the Studios and Solos break in a stiff wind, I know because I have to buy a new pair for my girl every few months.

The Mixrs are durable and so are the Pros.

OK. "Why would it matter it it sounds good?" You are in a wrong website my friend. This is head-fi and sounding good is very important. I respect your opinion that you like the beats, but it is fact that in terms of clarity, detail, transition, and soundstage, beats are no match to audiophile headphones, including sennheiser.

The Studios have a way better soundstage than the Solos, but the DSP I believe is in the headphones themselves, yes it's artificial but it definitely comes home with you.

Well, what I've heard on the store totally killed my senn hd25, in term of enjoyment. Soundstage at least was completely blasted, even from the solo.
However I'm willing to think it's because of the music selection , and that it was processed with some dsp.
Detail are not always enjoyable, depends of the music.
I guess that with classical music the beat solo , would suck.
But with rnb, hip hop, the genre they are advertised, they stand a chance compared to "audiophile" brands imho.

I see your point. But you are comparing wrong headphones. Lets say you compare something like Denon to beats for rnb and hip-hop. Does your claim still stand?
