Amazon/HeadRoom now list AKG K701 headphones for $349.  I just bought a pair a few months ago, (and then sold them for a DT880), for $239?

I don't know either. At one point, I remember seeing the K701's at $180 on Amazon. Wished I jumped on them then. =/

Headroom mentioned that AKG controls the pricing for authorized dealers.  So that may be why Amazon, and all authorized new dealer prices have jumped.  Ouch!

That is probably the reason for the price increase.  You can however, still get the K702 for a pretty good price on Amazon.

Perhaps the increased radiation in the air due to the earthquake in Japan enhances sound waves and makes the headphones sound about $100 better.

It isn't just AKG.  HD650's and HD800's have also inexplicably gone up in price.

That's weird, I was just thinking about how headphone manufacturers could charge pretty much anything for any headphone past "Grado sr-60 tier". I guess this confirms it!

Seems like prices on everything have gone up.

A couple weeks ago, the president of Wal-Mart warned of widescale inflation. Food and gas have jumped, so everything else will probably go along with it.

The Denons have gone up to full MRSP for a few months now. Semms like most headphones have gone up.
