What headphones were you using b4 you discovered head-fi/real headphones!

Foster headphones bought in 1964, but I quickly learnt that they were fairly nasty. My first serious Hi-Fi headphones were a pair of AKG K60's, which I was happy with until getting some Stax SR5s a decade or so later.

WAY before head-fi, when I was about 9 and my only source was the SB Live! in the family PC, I used some white thin-headband $10 supra-aural Philip 'cans, but back them they were just headphones

When I started to have more interest in sound (mostly bass) I got some TDK MP100's for my birthday. They sound OK now, but back then I didn't like them because they didn't have truckloads of bass.

Later, I got some Altec Lansing AHP-512's. About this time I joined Head-fi and wrote a review on them. They were like obese (flabby) subwoofer's strapped to your head. They sound CRAP, but made good parts for modding

I had those, they suck. I think they come by default with the Walkman.

I also had the Sennheiser PMX-60, then the Panasonic RP-HG50, then the Koss KSC75.

Before HeadFi... thanks to the internet, I wanted HD650's but didn't have the money...settled for Bose Triports. When the money became available I started to research more about 650's and found HeadFi. Ended up with W5000's. Long journey made short by taking HUGE, well-planned steps. Thank you HeadFi!

a few pairs of those sony behind-the-neck style headphones (the model escapes me)

yes, i bought more than one, as I thought that spending more $$ wouldn't get results that were any better

Fostex RP-T20 from around 1980 or something, which i still have and listen to sometimes. I wish they still made that exact one and didnt get all plastic and all. I may just buy the new one because im curious, and theyre like $50 or something,or maybe the T50 model, like $70 or something. Anyway that was for home listening.

My portable was a Sony MD-301,which i use for playing my guitar through a little mixer i got sometimes,so i dont wake people up....but its rarely.

About 10 years ago a girl on IRC told me Sennheiser made the best headphones. Shortly after I bought the hd570's. I gave them to a friend after finding head-fi but I miss them. Before them I had some closed koss cans.

Sennhieser hd420, Bose QC-1 and Sony MDR-V6. Still have all three, the senns I've had for 20 years so I keep them for sentimental reasons, I wouldn't dream of flying anywhere with out the Bose and the Sony's are just plain nice.
