I'm looking for another pair of headphones that compliment the LCD3s. What do you suggest?

Easy...HD800s. Between both cans, you'll have all your bases covered.

I havent auditioned the HD800 but read that the highs can be a bit harsh. Is this a common trait for HD800 owners?

Depends on preference. I'd say most say no. I say yes. I'll be looking to pickup another pair for one last try soon.

I'm a tube amp noob. Would I need to get one to offset the harshness? I'm making the general assumption that tubes are warmer than solid states.

It's not even a given that you would experience harshness. Overall the majority do not, however there are some it does.
Tubes are usually the best match with the HD800, but that doesn't mean you can't just go with a SS amp.

They can be if you feed them harsh recordings (like many of the initial run CDs in the early 90s) or feed them with a sub-standard source/amp. I've even see some new owners plug them into an "upgraded soundcard" in their PCs and complain they were a bit bright.  /facepalm.

Maybe a good closed headphone ie..

TH900
W3000ANV

I don't have either - but I want both

A good closed phone would be a great option. Personally I'd go with the W3000ANV for the really seductive mids and its more of a contrast to the LCD-3s than the TH-900s.

Maybe an electrostat option? If the op can afford the LCD3's then maybe he could stretch to the SR009's.  Also the HE6's. I like the HE500's to compliment my LCD2's because they are similar enough if you like that kind of sound, but also different enough to offer a nice bit of light and shade.

(Disclaimer; haven't heard the LCD3's or HE6's and will probably never hear the SR009's in this life, so feel free to completely ignore my recommendation. It's based purely on what I have read.)
