but seriously, for xmas i want to hear a high dollar setup to see if it's really all that different, so far i've had senn hd555s and grado 125s around my ears - the music lover in me wants to know what $400+ cans sound like properly sourced

As far as audio-related presents go, Matrix M-Stage and Etymotic MC5 (broke my Sennheiser CX380 Sport II or whatever the exact model was). AH-D5000's I will probably have to pay for myself.

I want to get my hands on the HE-500. With the price drop it is now within my budget to try out the planar magnetic sound. Unfortunately there is nobody who will spend that much on me so will have to hope I get some cash to assist in building the funds....
