Thanks for the suggestion, and as much as I want it, the WA6 SE i just completely out of my budget. And I mean waaay out. I'm looking at either the Valhalla or the WA3, plus either the DACMagic or the V-DAC.

FWIR the Valhalla sounds amazing, Schiit did well for being newcomers.

If can afford them in 2011.... AKG K1000 and a pair of Stax, because this year I have bought the Fostex T50RP, Shure SRH840 and Audio-Technica ATH-M40FS, with an upcoming pair of Grado SR325is/Alessandro MS2 and a Marantz/NAD/similar vintage amp.

What's that? 702?

Nope. We're all anxiously waiting for a K1000 successor.

I really don't think I'll get a pair of headphones next year. Maybe a pair of speakers. A couple amps. A CDP...ooh I was just reminded by that ribbon thing. But the tweeters made by that company are prohibitively expensive...if they're priced anywhere close to the LCD-2 by some miracle, I'll have to get a pair.

i think that was meant as sarcasm.

i.e., just because most folks didn't like the k701, doesn't mean it wasn't the intended flagship and successor to the k1000.

also, i wouldn't bet on "harmon international" releasing another ear speaker.
ain't gonna happen.

so, instead of a successor to the k1000, in 2011 we'll get a successor to the k701.

sorry...

To be completely honest, I don't either. The K1000 wasn't really popular until it was discontinued no?

Yes, very very true. I was listening to Jude's 4th and last podcast and AKG was getting alot of people asking them is they are going to reissue the K1000 and AKG said there has been engineers working on such a thing but nothing is in any stages yest, but there is a possibility of the K1000 coming out again, or a higher model and it being better. (And Jude, if you are reading this please continue the podcast, may people besides me also want you to continue).

Certainly not!
The K702 (with the K701 and K601) is more like a K501 successor, not a K1000 successor. Although AKG may have had a different intention.
