and just to all those people that like pink floyd like thats fine ... it is intelligent music , they not stupid music ions ... but they suck , they suck big time : ) ... another question ok three years ago i think this sight was easyer to use ... ok i figgered out how to find mike moffet again ... but like how the f do you say for instance i wanna look up what people are talking about a yiggy or talking about a hd800s or what people say about some obscure dac from the 90s thats pretty good ... how do you fine this info on this new sight .. i type in yggsdrasil and its 50 ads to sell a yiggy ... i wanna read what people are talking about , like in this ... i thing this whole new head fi sight sucks and the idiot that desiged the sight should be ... i really cant figger out how it works ... what if someone gets into headphones and sh t and then they come to search headfi you just wont find what you looking for anymore .... it sucks ✌

I think you will need to ask a Pink Floyd fan to explain it to you. They are intelligent enough to explain it to you...

One of the 'prices' for popularity is additional complexity.

There are nuggets of wisdom scattered here and there, but you won't find them using a 'search'.
There are some threads that do contain these pearls of wisdom but they are not easy to find.
IOW you have to find them as they won't find you.

And wading thru all of the other posts is a time consuming task, no doubt.
But the 'long term' solution is to 'hang out' in a few well chosen threads and ask questions/pay attention to the specifics which can lead you to some of them.

Of course some folks will provide more useful info for you, based upon what your specific interests are, and what your 'level' of expertise is etc, while others won't.

IOW it's not a 'slam dunk' anymore, and your degree of success is directly related to the time spent in seeking answers, which will be reflected by your degree of interest and tenacious perseverance.

I bet a Graphics Processor Unit could handle the needed computations. Maybe we'll see an NVidia, AMD or some other GPU-based Gadget.

I am not certain if a Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) with its highly parallel architecture is suitable for what Mike wants to do, he has already indicated that a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) is not suitable:
...3. Gadget

...So what is not? After all, we demoed one a couple of years ago, no? Indeed, we did but the algorithm was written into an Analog Devices DSP processor, a processor unsuited to allow the algorithm to run properly. It was gimped to fit into what we had at the moment. We got lucky because it demoed well. What we really need to do this right is a much faster, non DSP hardware base. The DSP platforms we build now are suitable for digital filter implementation. The gadget’s as well as a couple of other feature type goodies we have built need to run on a much, much faster platforms which are NOT optimized for digital filters.. Much faster than any other processor which will run openBSD.

We have a requirement for a not quite that fast processor for our upcoming transport. The fact that the processor will have some bonus apps and features will require that speed. At that time we will be much closer to the processor requirements for the gadget/signal processor functions.
...

One caveat to the comment is that I am a mechanical engineer and not a computer processing specialist, despite starting my computer experience using hand-punched cards.

The Bifrost has had a number of upgrades over the years. New DS and MB DAC improvements. The new Modius too, with yet another new DAC chip. As such, any chance of a refresh for the Gungnir? A new DS upgrade path, as well as the existing MB upgrade? I love my Modius, and my Gungnir DS. I just wish I could upgrade the DS cards to current DS chip sets, since the Modius sounds so good. I'd like to try a MB upgrade, but I don't want to loose what I already have and enjoy.

Yeah I knew it wouldn't be a message that would provide a straight ahead, follow the 'easy path', sorta advice.
But hopefully it might have provided some incentive to 'carry on' and push thru to the other side despite the frustration and confusion.

And really once the 'new' learned patterns become more familiar, it will be seen that they really aren't the stumbling blocks they appeared to be.
Getting to that point however is the challenge.

And as with most things these days, things ARE more complicated and require more 'mental involvement' than it would seem should be necessary.
But then again the complexity of the answers that are found has also increased, which just adds to the 'richness' of the search and potential usefulness of the answers themselves.

This brings up the sage advice of "It's not the destination but the journey itself" that yields the most significant results.

Besides in the long run, it's less costly/complicated than hiring/bribing the computer nerd kid down the street, to do the leg work for your answers…

Consider a Bifrost multibit (OG) with Gen 5 or Bifrost 2 instead for about the same cost as a Gungnir Multibit upgrade. Bifrost 2 has the LME49724 differential balanced amp, the 8x filter like Gungnir MB (Bifrost MG OG is 4x) and the same family AD5781 DAC chip as Gungnir MB.

If you are planning on getting a Schiit Transport (whenever it is finalized and released to production) then having DAC's with Unison USB inputs (like your Modius does) should give the best performance.

for Unison upgrades, I had inquired with Jason on the main thread a while back, and the Unison upgrade cards for Bifrost / Gungnir / Yggdrasil can be moved between the three units, but the ID string that your PC will see won't match. The older USB interface cards may have interchangeability restrictions. Gungnir also needs additional motherboard updates (firmware???) to support Unison, so there is no self-install option.

Well, I already have a Bifrost MB OG too! I'm a glutton for punishment, I suppose?

I would like to upgrade my Gungnir to Unison. But, I wish I could do it myself, as I enjoy that type of hands on work. It's fun. Though, I understand the need of a firmware update, to allow for the Unison card.

Interesting that the Unison cards are interchangeable. That makes sense, as one card will do it all, without the need for multiple designs. That makes me wish that the Bifrost 4490 cards would work in the Gungnir. You'd just need 2, instead of one.

And I am interested in the Schiit transport, as I have thousands of CDs. Anything to help keep them playing, would gain my interest. And money! Plus, I love Schiit's way of doing business. It's an honor to support them.

Is your bifrost MB gen 5 or is it an earlier USB rev? how does your Bifrost MB stack up against the modius?
